Want to camp with comfort?

The BunduTop is one of the best, most durable, comfortable and luxurious Roof Top Tents we have. Let's start by saying it is made in South Africa, and the quality of the materials are exceptional. As most of the South African brands for RTT's, they have a lot of experience in the industry, and are ahead of most of the other brands.

The BunduTop is made of aluminum, which makes it not only more durable, but when it comes to winter, it holds up better, stronger, and has an insulation system that will keep you warmer.

On top of that, it already comes with one or two 12V fans (depending on the model) to keep you cool during your camping days in summer.

The materials of the mesh are made of superb quality, ideal to sternly hold against strong winds or rain, and prevent insects from getting in your hard top tent. The capacity of the Regular Bundutop RTT is of up to three mid-sized persons, but ideally, for a more comfortable camping experience, two is ok.

As for setting the BunduTop Hardshell Roof Top Tent, one push of its easy setup electric motor and you are good to go. With it, you'll have the ease to open or close your roof top tent in just two minutes.

One of the newest features of the BunduTop is the option Annex Room to store more camping gear and personal stuff, or you can maximize the use of the annex room as a standup changing room, a rare luxury while camping outdoors at a minimal cost.

PLEASE NOTE: This tent will be shipped FREE to your nearest Freight Center. You can choose to have it delivered to a Business Address ONLY if you have a Forklift. PLEASE WRITE IT on the Order Notes. IT CANNOT be delivered to a Residential area due to the size of the tent itself.

About Solar Wiring:

  • The wiring of the solar wiring runs underneath the roof-lining
  • The tent comes with a red Brad Harrison plug on the roof of the tent for easy connection to your solar panel
  • It also comes with a red Brad Harrison plug on the bottom of the tent for easy access to your vehicles wiring
  • Remember that the max weight of the roof of the tent is 55lb so if you install any solar panel, it must weigh less.

  • When installing the tent, we advise that there is no more than a 20 inch unsupported overhang
  • We also advise, that the roof rack / load bars should be no less than 50 inches long
    1. If installing on load bars use three evenly spaced supports
  • The tent can be bolted with a minimum of 4, preferable 6 bolts
  • You can run wiring from the dual battery system with the Anderson plug supplied through the vehicle or you can make an extension.
    1. If you are doing the wiring from your battery directly to the tent you will need the following:
      1. An Additional Anderson Plug
      2. 10 gauge wire
      3. 15amp In-line fuse (this is to prevent damage if you forget to open the latches
  • Positive and Negative energy are to be connected CORRECTLY
  • When it comes to opening and closing the tent with the motor, sll you bedding can be kept in-tact, simple arrange the pillows so they do not get tangled in the ropes
  • How it works:
    • The tent's winch motor is connected to a series of ropes that run on bearings to effectively pull in the awnings and sides. The rope system inside is essentially paracorde rope snaked through various pulleys and arms, as well as the mechanisms for the awning to pull in the sides and awnings when the tent is shut
    • The arms and their unique design again assist with the lifting of the tent to ensure that is is rigid when open, essentially strengthening the construction.
    • To Open:
      • Unclip ALL FOUR latches and ensure they are open before pressing the button to lift the tent
      • There is a limit switch that assists with telling the motor when to stop while lifting/lowering the tent
      • If you forget to unclip one of the latches the arm inside will bend. This is the ONLY way you can damage the tent from the inside, so be VERY careful. It is easy enough to fix but best avoided and will NOT be covered by warranty.

What To Do Before Accepting Shipment?

If your order has shipped please note that the tracking number may not be active until it reaches a freight terminal. This could take 1 to 2 business days from the date of this email.

Please inspect your package for damage prior to signing for it.

Off Road Tents takes pride in its products and packaging. Every tent that we ship out is properly classified, packaged, marked and labeled. Also each package is in the proper condition for transportation according to applicable regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation and/or international agencies.

Once your order is signed for at the delivery point, the package becomes your property and thus, our liability ends as far as shipping damage is concerned. Help protect yourself from loss or damage, or an uncomfortably painful claims process by:

1. Before Signing for your order, inspect the box or boxes for freight loss or damage. Red flags are punctures or any sign of forklift damage.

2. If any of the product(s) appear to be damaged or crushed do not accept delivery. Refuse the shipment and it will be sent back for processing.

3. It is extremely important that you inspect the box and tent (in case the item purchased is a tent) for damage BEFORE you sign to receive the tent. Please take photos of the box on the pallet exactly as it arrives. Please note, the driver will not help with damage inspection. IF you even suspect there could be damage to your item, please take pictures of the damage and REFUSE the delivery. That way the carrier will send it back to us and we'll process a new shipment.

4. Get a copy of the signed delivery receipt that shows the freight loss or damage notation, and send it to us: support@offroadtents.com

5. Contact Off Road Tents immediately at 1.844.200.3979

If you accept a damaged delivery, and/or there is freight loss and/or the damage is not noted at the time of delivery, Off Road Tents cannot be held liable for any replacement costs related to the shipment. Protect yourself from this by examining before you sign. Refusing delivery when damaged helps Off Road Tents win the case against the carrier, and replacing your item.

Step-By-Step Guide On How To Mount A Roof Top Tent:

  1. All tents have a similar installation process, but they might vary a little, that is why we recommend you reading carefully THROUGH EACH PRODUCT MANUAL, as well as watching their videos (most are online, or you can ask us to send them to you).

  1. Tools needed: A Phillips head screwdriver, a box cutter, a second 13 mmm ratcheting wrench, a 10mm ratcheting wrench and a heck saw.

  1. Before mounting them onto a roof rack, flat rack or crossbar, the first step is removing your newly bought RTT from the box, as well as all the bits and pieces included (all RTTs WILL include all the necessary installation parts and a manual).

  1. Take the tent out of the box and place it on a clean surface with the straps faced DOWN. Set aside the mounting racks. Remove the protective plastic from the tent with the box cutter. Undo the straps from the sides of the tent and across the base.

  2. Open the tent, and take from inside of it all the contents. Most brands will include a tent cover, rainfly, ladder, mattress, and a pouch with the hardware, tools and parts.

  1. Most RTTs will include the following tools and hardware (see Image as an example): 2 bungees, 2 ladder brackets, 8 aluminum channel sliders with bolts and nuts, 4 end caps, four steel mounting plates, the needed wrenches, and four medium sized bolts with washers.

tools included inside roof top tents
  1. Then, time for the action. Grab the mounting tracks of the RTT; place them on the tent base parallel to the hinges, aligning the holes in the tracks with the holes in the base.

  2. Grab the nuts, remove them from the four medium sized bolts and slide them into the mounting channels, as to align them to the holes in the base.

  3. Then take the bolts each with two washers, and slide them between the mattress and the tent base.

  4. Screw them into the pre drilled holes and the nuts you just put in the tracks.

  5. Once the tracks are on, you need turn/flip the tent over to install the ladder.

  6. Grab the Ladder Brackets and unscrew the bolts on each bracket, so that you can position over the pre-drilled holes at the edge of the tent base.

  7. Take the longer bolts each with the washer, and slide them between the mattress and the tent base, into the pre-drilled holes and up through the ladder bracket.

  1. Attach each one with a nut and leave them loose.

  1. Then grab the ladder and through the holes at the end of it, join it to the by passing the remaining length of the bolt through the holes in the ladder end. Then add another nut and tighten it on both sides.

  1. Then rotate the ladder a few times, before tightening the bolts of the brackets to the base.

  1. Then secure the ladder with the straps (most tents should have them), and then reattach the side straps of the tent to secure it.

  1. Once all the parts have been installed, make sure you put the travel cover on top of the tent. It is a very easy process that barely needs explanation; just make sure you close the zippers carefully to prevent the tent fabric catching to the zipper.

  1. Time to place the tent on top of the vehicle. Since they weigh over 120 lbs, you will want the help of someone to do it.

  1. Mounting the tent mounting tracks depends on whether you have side rails or cross bars, and if you want the tent to open towards the side of the car or towards the back. In this step-by-step guide we will use a side mounting as an example on top of cross bars.

  1. Place the mounting racks in the base of the tent, PERPENDICULAR to your roof rack bars.

  1. Then, fit two aluminum channel sliders and bolts into each end of the mounting track, so that there is a bolt on either side of the roof rack bar. Repeat this process at each of the 4 points where the racks and mounting racks cross.

  1. Once this is done, fit a steel mounting plate on the bolts and under the roof rack bar, and secure them with nuts and tighten them with a wrench.

  1. Insert the rubber end caps into the end of the mounting tracks to avoid water or other materials going in there. You might need to hammer them in, but don’t be too aggressive.

  1. It is INSTALLED!

How To Open The Roof Top Tent:

  1. Now, to open it, release the side straps, pull back the ladder until it locks out and use it as leverage to open the tent.

  1. Make sure all rungs of the ladder are locked into the edge.

  1. Before getting into the tent, make sure the hinges are properly engaged.

  1. Then unclasp the awnings and find the predrilled holes for the rainfly rods.

  1. Insert at a 45-degree angle and hook through the grommet.

  1. You are READY!

Worth the money

We bought the Bundutop after a LOT of thought. It was not cheap, but it has been worth the money. My husband and I wanted a comfortable roof top tent that we could take during our trips to the Great Lakes. We have been nothing short of amazed. The rooftop tent sets up by itself with a motor. It's heavy, yes, but the aluminum parts are supposed to be better than fiberglass. And inside, it's simply fantastic. We sleep really really well, and we're just so happy. After browsing around a few websites, we went for Off Road Tents because they went the extra mile for us. Top notch customer service and advice, they walked us through the sale, through the shipping process and literally all we needed. Thanks guys!

Ask a Question
  • Is it possible to mount a solar panel to the roof of the tent? Is the fan on the tent solar powered ?

Yes – A Solar Panel can be added to the roof top tent and now all units come pre-wired.

Fan – when added to a unit, the fan is hard-wired into the unit and has an on/off switch.    Solar power when used on an off-road setup is designed to charge your batteries and your batteries than run all your stuff.
