Blackout Fly. Sleep Past Sunrise.
C6 Outdoor REV Tent Eclipse Gen 2. Built-in 4" mattress. 25 lbs. Ground, truck bed, or rooftop.
Sunrise arrives in a tent before it arrives anywhere else. Thin fly fabric turns the interior into a glowing box at first light, and by 7am it is too bright and too warm to stay in. The Eclipse fixes that. It is the same 25 lb four-season REV Tent with the same built-in 4 inch mattress, fitted with a blackout fly sheet that blocks light rather than diffusing it. If you camp in the desert, chase long summer days at high latitude, work nights, or simply want the option of sleeping in, this is the fly to have.
Everything else is pure REV Tent. Pitch it on the ground, in a pickup bed, or on a vehicle roof with the right mounting system. PFAS-free performance fabrics throughout, fully taped seams, and a 1500mm PU coated fly. And because the Gen 2 fly is removable, blackout is not a permanent state. Strip the fly on a clear night and you are looking at open sky through the new oversized moon roof. One tent, both extremes.
Who Actually Needs a Blackout Tent
This is a specialist fly, and it is worth being clear about when it earns its place.
- Desert camping. Blocking light also blocks a meaningful amount of solar gain, so the interior stays cooler longer into the morning instead of becoming an oven by 8am.
- Long summer days. Camping at high latitude in June means light at 4:30am and again until 10pm. Blackout gives you actual night regardless of what the sun is doing.
- Sleeping in. If your camping style is late nights around the fire and slow mornings, this is the difference between waking at first light and waking when you feel like it.
- Shift workers and anyone sleeping during the day. Night shift, early flights, festivals, event camping. Any situation where your sleep window does not match the sun.
- Kids and naps. Anyone who has tried to get a toddler down for a nap in a bright tent understands immediately.
If none of that describes your camping, the Element covers general conditions and the HellaStorm handles severe weather. All three use the identical inner tent.
Eclipse, Element, or HellaStorm?
C6 sells the same REV Tent with three different fly sheets. The inner tent, mattress, poles, dimensions, and 25 lb weight are identical across all three. Only the fly changes.
| Eclipse | Element | HellaStorm | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Special Property | Blackout, blocks light | Standard | Max waterproofing |
| Waterproof Rating | 1500mm PU | 1500mm PU | 3000mm PU |
| Fly Fabric | 300D polyester | 300D polyester | 300D polyester |
| Inner Tent | Identical: 68D 210T ripstop, PFAS compliant | ||
| Mattress | Identical: 4" HDPE 16D and 30D foam | ||
| Weight | Identical: 25 lbs | ||
| Best For | Sleeping in, desert, long days | General conditions | Severe weather |
One thing worth knowing: all C6 fly sheets fit the same inner REV Tent and can be bought separately. Start with the Eclipse and add a HellaStorm later if your camping moves toward wetter country. You are buying a tent system, not a single configuration.
The Fly Comes Off
This is the headline Gen 2 change and it is what stops the Eclipse from being a one-note tent. When you want darkness, the blackout fly seals the light out. When the night is clear and warm, strip it off entirely and you get maximum ventilation plus a completely different tent. No compromise where you buy blackout and then find yourself sweating through every summer trip because the fly is permanently attached.
Blackout by Choice, Stars by Choice
There is something satisfying about owning the tent that can do both. New for Gen 2, the oversized moon roof is the reward for taking the fly off. Lie back on the 4 inch mattress and you are looking at open sky through mesh. Then when you want a dark, cool morning instead, the Eclipse fly goes back on. Most tents give you one or the other permanently. This one is a decision you make at the campsite.
A Giant Main Entrance
Gen 2 reconfigured the pole geometry to deliver a much larger main entrance and increased headroom. The practical effect is that you step into this tent rather than crawling in on your hands and knees, and once inside there is room to sit up and change without contorting. Open interior is 47" wide by 81" long by 38" high, and that 81 inches accommodates taller sleepers than most two-person tents manage.
A Real Mattress, Not a Pad
This is the reason people buy any REV Tent. The 4 inch mattress is built in, using HDPE 16D and 30D open cell foam in a dual-density layup, topped with a Peach Skin brushed polyester cover. It stays in the tent when you fold it down into the case, so there is no inflating, no deflating, and no waking up on the ground at 3am because a valve let go.
Pair that with a blackout fly and you have removed the two most common reasons people sleep badly in a tent: an uncomfortable surface and too much light too early. Four inches of foam is also meaningful insulation from cold ground or a cold truck bed, which is a large part of why this functions as a genuine four-season tent.
Ground, Truck Bed, or Roof
The REV Tent is designed so your camping style can change without buying a new tent.
On the Ground
No accessories needed. Pitch it anywhere a normal tent goes, except you sleep on a real 4 inch mattress instead of an inflatable pad.
In a Pickup Bed
Also ready out of the box. Off the ground, out of the mud, and no site prep needed on rocky or uneven ground.
On a Vehicle Roof
Add a mounting system. C6 offers options for popular roof rack brands, or the REV Platform X for cross bars and smaller racks.
Closed, the tent packs to 47.25" x 42" x 8.5" and fits in the back of most SUVs, in a pickup bed, or even a Tesla with the rear seats down. You can also strap it directly to a bare roof, cross bars, roof rails, or a roof rack for transport using C6 REV Straps, or REV Straps combined with REV Door Hooks for direct roof mounting.

Caring for Your REV Tent
C6 built this to last generations of use, and a few specific habits protect that investment. The first one catches people out.
- Do not use soap on the tent body. Soap damages the protective coatings. Wipe the case and tent down with water and a soft cloth instead.
- Always air dry completely before zipping it up. If the tent gets wet, dry it fully. Storing it damp is how tents get mouldy, and mould destroys the fabric.
- Store with a gap in the case zipper. Leave the case slightly open for airflow, and keep the silicate packet that ships with the tent to use during off-season storage.
- Re-seal the seams every few seasons. Applying seam tape sealant periodically maintains the waterproof properties of the seams.
- Keep it out of the sun when not in use. UV is what ages tent fabric fastest. Storing it out of the elements meaningfully extends its usable life.
Important: No Fire Retardant Chemicals
C6 does not treat REV Tent fabrics with fire retardant chemicals. That is part of moving to PFAS-free materials, and many campers prefer untreated fabric for exactly that reason. It does mean you should treat this like any untreated tent: keep all flame, heaters, stoves, and lanterns away from the tent fabric, and never cook or run a combustion heater inside.
Pros
- Blackout fly blocks light so you can sleep past sunrise and stay cooler into the morning
- Fly is removable, so the same tent goes from blackout to open-sky stargazing
- Built-in 4" dual-density foam mattress. No inflating, no pads, no waking up flat
- Only 25 lbs, so one person can carry, pitch, and mount it
- Works on the ground and in a pickup bed with no accessories at all
- PFAS-free fabrics throughout with a 1500mm PU coated fly
- Giant Gen 2 main entrance with increased headroom, plus the new oversized moon roof
- All C6 fly sheets fit the same inner tent, so you can add another fly later
Cons
- 1500mm fly rating, same as the Element. For severe weather the HellaStorm doubles that to 3000mm
- At 25 lbs this is heavy for a backpacking tent. It is built for vehicle-based camping
- Roof mounting requires a separate mounting system or the REV Platform X, sold separately
- Fabrics contain no fire retardant chemicals, so keep all flame and heaters well away
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Eclipse blackout fly actually do?
It blocks light rather than diffusing it, so the tent interior stays dark after sunrise instead of glowing at first light. Blocking light also blocks solar gain, which means the interior stays cooler longer into the morning rather than heating up by 8am. That combination makes it the fly of choice for desert camping, long summer days at high latitude, festival and event camping, shift workers, and anyone whose sleep window does not match the sun.
Eclipse, Element, or HellaStorm: which do I need?
All three are the same tent with a different fly sheet. Identical inner tent, mattress, poles, dimensions, and 25 lb weight. Choose Eclipse if you want to sleep past sunrise, camp in the desert, or need darkness on demand. Choose Element for general conditions. Choose HellaStorm if you camp through severe weather, since its 3000mm fly doubles the waterproof rating. All C6 flies fit the same inner tent, so you can add a second one later.
Can I take the fly off?
Yes, and this is the main Gen 2 upgrade. The fly is fully removable, so on warm clear nights you can strip it for maximum ventilation and stargaze through the new oversized moon roof. Buying a blackout fly does not commit you to darkness every night. You choose at the campsite based on the weather and how late you plan to sleep.
Do I need anything else to use it?
Not for ground camping or pickup bed camping. It is ready to pitch out of the box in both. To sleep on a vehicle roof you need a mounting system, and C6 offers options for popular roof rack brands. If you have cross bars or a small roof rack rather than a full platform, you need the REV Platform X. Call us at 844-200-3979 with your vehicle and rack setup and we will confirm what you need.
How do I clean it?
Water and a soft cloth only. Do not use soap on the tent body, because soap damages the protective coatings. Always air dry the tent completely before zipping it into the case, and store it with a small gap in the case zipper for airflow. Keep the silicate packet that ships with the tent and use it during off-season storage. Storing a damp tent sealed up is how mould starts, and mould will destroy the fabric.
Is the mattress really built in?
Yes. The 4 inch mattress stays in the tent when you fold it down into the case, so there is nothing to inflate, deflate, or pack separately. It uses HDPE 16D and 30D open cell foam in a dual-density layup with a brushed Peach Skin polyester cover. Beyond comfort, four inches of foam is genuine insulation from cold ground or a cold truck bed, which is a large part of why this works as a four-season tent.
