3000mm Fly. Twice the Waterproofing. Same 25 lbs.
C6 Outdoor REV Tent HellaStorm Gen 2. Built-in 4" mattress. Taped seams. Lab tested for gale force winds.
The HellaStorm is the REV Tent for people who camp when the weather is genuinely bad. It is the same 25 lb four-season tent with the same built-in 4 inch mattress, fitted with a removable fly sheet built for the most severe conditions. The 3000mm PU coated fabric offers twice the waterproofing of the standard Element fly. If you camp in the Pacific Northwest, in shoulder season at elevation, or anywhere sideways rain is a normal part of the trip, this is the fly you want.
Everything else is pure REV Tent. Pitch it on the ground, in a pickup bed, or on a vehicle roof with the right mounting system. Fully taped seams and PFAS-free performance fabrics, lab tested for intense rain and gale force winds. And because the Gen 2 fly is removable, the HellaStorm is not a commitment to always running heavy weather protection. Strip the fly on a clear night and sleep under the new oversized moon roof. One tent covers both extremes.
HellaStorm or Element? The Fly Is the Only Difference
C6 sells the same REV Tent with different fly sheets. The inner tent, mattress, poles, dimensions, and weight are identical. What changes is how much weather the fly is built to take.
| HellaStorm | Element | |
| Fly Waterproof Rating | 3000mm PU | 1500mm PU |
| Fly Fabric | 300D polyester | 300D polyester |
| Inner Tent | Identical: 68D 210T ripstop, PFAS compliant | |
| Mattress | Identical: 4" HDPE 16D and 30D foam | |
| Weight | Identical: 25 lbs | |
| Best For | Severe weather, heavy rain, all-season | General conditions, lighter pack |
Choose the HellaStorm if you camp through real weather, in wet climates, or at elevation in shoulder season. Twice the waterproof rating is not marketing, it is the difference between a fly that sheds a downpour and one that eventually wets through.
Choose the Element if most of your camping happens in fair conditions and you would rather not carry the heavier fly.
Either way, you are not locked in. All C6 fly sheets are compatible with the same inner REV Tent and can be bought separately. Start with one and add the other later if your camping changes.
The Fly Comes Off
This is the headline Gen 2 change and it is what stops the HellaStorm from being a one-note storm tent. On a wet night the 3000mm fly seals you in. On a clear warm night, strip it off entirely and you get maximum ventilation plus a completely different tent. No compromise where you buy heavy weather protection and then swelter through every summer trip because it is permanently attached.
Stargazing Through the Moon Roof
New for Gen 2, the oversized moon roof is the reward for taking the fly off. Lie back on the 4 inch mattress and you are looking at open sky through mesh rather than at the underside of a fly sheet. It is the kind of feature that sounds like a gimmick until the first clear night at elevation, and then it becomes the reason you leave the fly in the case.
A Giant Main Entrance
Gen 2 reconfigured the pole geometry to deliver a much larger main entrance and increased headroom. The practical effect is that you step into this tent rather than crawling in on your hands and knees, and once inside there is room to sit up and change without contorting. Open interior is 47" wide by 81" long by 38" high, and that 81 inches accommodates taller sleepers than most two-person tents manage.
Ground, Truck Bed, or Roof
The REV Tent is designed so your camping style can change without buying a new tent.
On the Ground
No accessories needed. Pitch it anywhere a normal tent goes, except you sleep on a real 4 inch mattress instead of an inflatable pad.
In a Pickup Bed
Also ready out of the box. Off the ground, out of the mud, and no site prep needed on rocky or uneven ground.
On a Vehicle Roof
Add a mounting system. C6 offers options for popular roof rack brands, or the REV Platform X for cross bars and smaller racks.
Closed, the tent packs to 47.25" x 42" x 8.5" and fits in the back of most SUVs, in a pickup bed, or even a Tesla with the rear seats down. You can also strap it directly to a bare roof, cross bars, roof rails, or a roof rack for transport using C6 REV Straps, or REV Straps combined with REV Door Hooks for direct roof mounting.

Not a Disposable Tent
C6 spent over a decade developing and testing this against the one-and-done tents that fill mass retail shelves. Fully taped seams, PFAS-free advanced performance fabrics, 7001 aluminum poles, and lab testing for intense rain and gale force winds. The mattress alone changes what camping feels like, but the real argument is longevity. This is built to be used for years across a range of elevations and conditions rather than replaced every couple of seasons.
The Case Is Part of the Tent
The whole tent folds into a built-in weatherproof carrying case made from 840D high density TPU coated nylon Oxford with a 6000mm PU rating. The mattress stays inside. There is no separate stuff sack to lose, no wrestling fabric back into a bag that is too small, and the case itself is rated tougher than most tents' outer fabric. Closed it measures 47.25" x 42" x 8.5", which slides into a truck bed or onto a garage shelf.

Caring for Your REV Tent
C6 built this to last generations of use, and a few specific habits protect that investment. The first one catches people out.
- Do not use soap on the tent body. Soap damages the protective coatings. Wipe the case and tent down with water and a soft cloth instead.
- Always air dry completely before zipping it up. If the tent gets wet, dry it fully. Storing it damp is how tents get mouldy, and mould destroys the fabric.
- Store with a gap in the case zipper. Leave the case slightly open for airflow, and keep the silicate packet that ships with the tent to use during off-season storage.
- Re-seal the seams every few seasons. Applying seam tape sealant periodically maintains the waterproof properties of the taped seams.
- Keep it out of the sun when not in use. UV is what ages tent fabric fastest. Storing it out of the elements meaningfully extends its usable life.
Important: No Fire Retardant Chemicals
C6 does not treat REV Tent fabrics with fire retardant chemicals. That is part of moving to PFAS-free materials, and many campers prefer untreated fabric for exactly that reason. It does mean you should treat this like any untreated tent: keep all flame, heaters, stoves, and lanterns away from the tent fabric, and never cook or run a combustion heater inside.
Pros
- 3000mm HellaStorm fly delivers twice the waterproofing of the standard Element fly
- Fly is removable, so the same tent handles a storm or a clear stargazing night
- Built-in 4" dual-density foam mattress. No inflating, no pads, no waking up flat
- Only 25 lbs, so one person can carry, pitch, and mount it
- Works on the ground and in a pickup bed with no accessories at all
- Fully taped seams and PFAS-free fabrics, lab tested for intense rain and gale force winds
- Giant Gen 2 main entrance with increased headroom, plus the new oversized moon roof
- All C6 fly sheets fit the same inner tent, so you can add another fly later
Cons
- At 25 lbs this is heavy for a backpacking tent. It is built for vehicle-based camping
- Roof mounting requires a separate mounting system or the REV Platform X, sold separately
- Fabrics contain no fire retardant chemicals, so keep all flame and heaters well away
- No soap on the tent body, which means cleaning takes a little more care than most tents
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between HellaStorm and Element?
The fly sheet, and only the fly sheet. The HellaStorm fly is 300D fabric with a 3000mm PU coating, which is twice the waterproof rating of the 1500mm Element fly. The inner tent, 4 inch mattress, poles, dimensions, and 25 lb weight are identical between them. Choose HellaStorm if you camp through genuinely severe weather or in wet climates. Choose Element for general conditions. All C6 fly sheets fit the same inner tent, so you can add the other one later.
Can I take the fly off?
Yes, and this is the main Gen 2 upgrade. The fly is fully removable, so on warm clear nights you can strip it for maximum ventilation and stargaze through the new oversized moon roof. You are not stuck running heavy storm protection every night just because you bought the storm fly. That flexibility is what makes the HellaStorm worth choosing even if bad weather is only part of your camping.
Do I need anything else to use it?
Not for ground camping or pickup bed camping. It is ready to pitch out of the box in both. To sleep on a vehicle roof you need a mounting system, and C6 offers options for popular roof rack brands. If you have cross bars or a small roof rack rather than a full platform, you need the REV Platform X. Call us at 844-200-3979 with your vehicle and rack setup and we will confirm what you need.
How do I clean it?
Water and a soft cloth only. Do not use soap on the tent body, because soap damages the protective coatings. Always air dry the tent completely before zipping it into the case, and store it with a small gap in the case zipper for airflow. Keep the silicate packet that ships with the tent and use it during off-season storage. Storing a damp tent sealed up is how mould starts, and mould will destroy the fabric.
Is the mattress really built in?
Yes. The 4 inch mattress stays in the tent when you fold it down into the case, so there is nothing to inflate, deflate, or pack separately. It uses HDPE 16D and 30D open cell foam in a dual-density layup with a brushed Peach Skin polyester cover. Beyond comfort, four inches of foam is genuine insulation from cold ground or a cold truck bed, which is a large part of why this works as a four-season tent.
Can I use a heater inside?
No. C6 does not treat REV Tent fabrics with fire retardant chemicals, which is part of the move to PFAS-free materials. Keep all flame, stoves, lanterns, and combustion heaters well away from the tent fabric, and never cook or run a combustion heater inside. In genuine cold, rely on the 4 inch mattress for ground insulation and a properly rated sleeping bag instead.
