The RAV4 is the most popular SUV in America, and almost none of the rack options built for it are more than a pair of crossbars. The Snowmass is a full-length Sherpa PEAK RAV4 roof rack that turns the roof into an actual platform, covering 2019 through 2025.
This Toyota RAV4 roof rack spans 72 inches with 8 extrusion crossbars and carries 400 lbs dynamic and 700 lbs static, with no drilling required. That 400 lb dynamic figure is unusual on a compact SUV: most full-length racks manage 300, and the Snowmass six-bracket mount delivers a third more. At roughly 45 lbs it is also one of the lightest racks Sherpa builds. Construction is 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum side panels with stainless steel hardware. Black textured powder coat, black anodized crossbars, black oxide stainless hardware. Choose a Full Height wind fairing or a Half Height fairing sized for a single-row light bar. Manufactured in Colorado. Lifetime Warranty.
Two Exclusions Worth Checking Twice
Most racks have one fitment question. This one has two, and they are both easy to miss.
LE Trim
The base LE trim is not compatible, regardless of anything else about the vehicle. If your RAV4 is an LE, this rack will not fit. Higher trims are covered.
Panoramic Sunroof
Any RAV4 with a panoramic sunroof is out, on every trim. The large glass panel changes the roof structure where the rack needs to mount. A standard sunroof is a different thing, so if you are unsure which you have, send us a photo and we will tell you.
Both exclusions are worth checking before you order rather than after the box arrives. We would rather spend two minutes on the phone than process a return.
400 lbs Dynamic on a Compact SUV
Dynamic rating is the figure that applies while you are driving, and it is the one that actually limits what you can carry. Static rating, which is always higher, only covers the tent plus occupants once parked.
Most full-length racks sit at 300 lbs dynamic, and on a vehicle this size you would expect less rather than more. The Snowmass carries 400, thanks to six mounting brackets instead of the usual four spreading load across more attachment points. Paired with a 45 lb rack, that leaves an unusual amount of the rating for actual gear rather than for the rack itself.
About the Installation
Nothing is drilled and nothing is permanently modified, but the headliner has to come down so the mounting hardware can be reached from inside the roof. Six rubber plugs and seals ship with the rack to close everything up cleanly afterward.
It is careful work rather than difficult work, but plan a few hours. Many owners have a shop handle it, which is a reasonable call on a newer vehicle where you would rather someone else be responsible for the trim clips. Download the install guide below and read it fully before starting.
The PEAK Series
Industry leading premium roof rack systems. The PEAK series is the go-to for a premium aluminum roof rack. It is the line that Sherpa built its name on, and for years it has carried the gear of the most extreme adventurers. Sherpa believes in the constant evolution of their products, building the toughest systems on the market. From industry-leading alloys to uncompromising mounts with rubber seals, you will always Adventure with Confidence.
Crafted
Manufactured in Colorado with precision laser-cut 1/4" aluminum sideplates formed with CNC accuracy by Sherpa's team of professionals. They have created a very stout mounting structure, secured with stainless steel hardware, that will keep your gear where you need it. The 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum is thicker than most competing racks, which is how a 45 lb rack still carries 700 lbs static.
Adaptable
Sherpa knows the importance of mounting all of your goodies on your rig. With the PEAK Series, you have the ability to mount just about anything, anywhere. With slots and holes all over the rack, plus Sherpa's line of accessories, you will never find yourself wishing you could mount something. For anyone shopping RAV4 accessories to build out a camping or overland setup, the rack is the foundation the rest of the roof hangs off.
Durable
Strength is built into Sherpa's brand and the PEAK System is what they built their name on. Using the best in materials and hardware, you can beat on this system every weekend and trust it to show up to work on Monday. On a RAV4 that commutes five days a week and heads for a trailhead on the sixth, that is the right standard. All backed by Sherpa's Lifetime Warranty.
Beyond the Factory Crossbars
Shopping for a Toyota RAV4 roof rack usually starts with a fair question: why not use what came on the car? Most RAV4s come with factory rails, and they handle a couple of bikes or a cargo box perfectly well. What they do not give you is a platform. You cannot mount an awning cleanly, you cannot strap a long load across the full roof, and factory rail capacity sits well below what the Snowmass carries.
Eight crossbars and full-length side plates change what the vehicle can do. Awning on one side, traction boards or a shovel on the other, cargo down the middle, and a rooftop tent if you want one. That is the difference between hanging things off the car and actually building it out.
Which Fairing Is Right for You?
Sherpa's full height fairing is built for people who do not want to put a light bar on their rack. The half height fairing is made so you can fit a single row light bar while keeping everything flush. Both cost the same, so this is purely a build decision.
Full Height Fairing
For people who do not want a light bar on their rack. The taller smooth face deflects the most air for the quietest ride, which matters on a vehicle you commute in.
Half Height Fairing
Shorter so a single-row light bar fits behind it and sits flush with the fairing line.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit my RAV4?
It fits 2019 through 2025 RAV4s with two exceptions. LE trim models are not compatible, and no RAV4 with a panoramic sunroof is compatible on any trim. Everything else in that range is covered, including hybrid models. If you are unsure about your trim or which sunroof you have, call us at 844-200-3979 or send a photo and we will confirm before you order.
Does it fit the RAV4 Hybrid or Prime?
Yes, provided the same two rules hold: not an LE trim and no panoramic sunroof. The drivetrain does not change the roof, so a RAV4 Hybrid roof rack install is identical to a gas model. Trim and sunroof are the only things that decide fitment here.
Why does the headliner have to come out?
The mounting hardware is accessed from inside the roof, so the headliner has to be dropped to reach it. Nothing is drilled and nothing is permanently modified, and six rubber plugs and seals are included to close everything up cleanly. It is careful work rather than difficult work. Plan a few hours, or have a shop handle it.
Can I mount a rooftop tent on it?
Yes, and the 400 lb dynamic rating gives you more room than most compact SUV racks. 400 lbs dynamic covers the tent plus accessories while driving, and 700 lbs static covers the tent plus occupants once parked. The 72 by 46.5 inch platform suits most softshell and lighter hardshell tents. A RAV4 is still a car, so a lighter tent keeps handling and fuel economy closer to normal. Browse our rooftop tent collection here.
Why not just use the factory crossbars?
Factory rails handle a couple of bikes or a cargo box, and for many owners that is enough. What they do not give you is a platform. A proper roof rack for RAV4 builds provides eight crossbars and full-length side plates, so you can run an awning, strap long loads across the full roof, mount recovery gear, and carry considerably more weight.
Which fairing should I choose?
Choose Full Height if you are not running a light bar, since it deflects the most air for the quietest ride. That is worth weighing on a RAV4 you drive daily. Choose Half Height if you want a single-row light bar to sit flush with the fairing line. Both cost the same, so if a light bar is anywhere in your plans, Half Height saves buying a second fairing later.
