This box is engineered to mount to the Backwoods Adventure Mods Jeep Gladiator Bed Rack, which is sold separately and required. It is not a universal box and will not mount to other manufacturers' bed racks. You can run one box per side of the rack. Note that the Backwoods Gladiator bed rack itself requires factory or aftermarket bed rails on your Gladiator.
Most bed rack storage boxes are injection molded plastic. They flex, they fade, they crack at the hinges after a couple of seasons, and they never quite look like they belong on a built Gladiator. This one is different. The Backwoods Overland Bed Rack Storage Box is built entirely from 1/8 inch aluminum with stainless steel mounts, and it will still be square in ten years.
Everything about it is designed around actually using it in the field. Gas struts lift the lid automatically so you are not holding it open with one hand while digging with the other. Lockable push button latches keep your gear secure at a trailhead, which matters more on a Gladiator than most trucks given how often the top and doors come off. A high quality rubber gasket seals out dust and water. Two fully adjustable interior shelves let you organize by trip rather than dumping everything in a pile. And the exterior MOLLE panel comes predrilled for a Rotopax mount, so the outside of the box becomes usable real estate too. USA made, free powder coat, backed by a Lifetime Warranty.
Built to Live Outside
All 1/8" Aluminum Construction: This is the whole argument against plastic. Aluminum does not flex under load, does not go chalky and brittle under years of UV, and does not crack where the hinges mount. It also will not rust, corrode, or deteriorate from exposure to water, salt, or mud. Park it at the beach for a summer or in snow country all winter and aluminum simply does not care.
Gas Strut Auto Lid Opening: Unlatch it and the lid lifts itself, then stays there. That matters when you are reaching in with both hands, or when the wind is up and a loose lid would otherwise slam on your fingers. Three gas struts are included (more on why below).
Lockable Push Button Latches: Keyed locking latches with two rubber latch covers included. On a Gladiator that spends time with the top and doors off, having a genuinely lockable box in the bed is worth real money. The covers keep grit out of the latch mechanism.
Rubber Gasket Seal: A full-perimeter gasket keeps dust and water out. This is the difference between a box that protects gear and a box that collects mud, and it is what lets you run a Gladiator topless in the rain without worrying about what is in the bed.
Two Fully Adjustable Interior Shelves: Set them to whatever your gear needs. Recovery straps and shackles on one level, camp kitchen on another, tools below. Adjustable means the box adapts trip to trip instead of forcing one layout on you permanently.
Exterior MOLLE Panel: The outside face is a MOLLE panel, predrilled for a Rotopax mount. Hang a fuel or water can, a shovel, an axe, or MOLLE pouches. On a Gladiator bed rack where every square inch is contested between a tent, an awning, and your gear, turning the box exterior into mounting surface is genuinely useful.

Why Three Gas Struts?
Backwoods includes three so the lid action matches how you load the box.
Use two struts if the exterior MOLLE panel is empty or carrying light accessories. That is the standard setup and gives correct lid feel.
Use all three if you are running a Rotopax or another heavy accessory on the outside panel. The extra strut compensates for that added weight so the lid still lifts properly and does not fall closed on you.

Can I run two boxes?
Yes. You can mount one box per side of the bed rack, so two total. That gives you organized, lockable, weather-sealed storage down both sides while leaving the center of the rack open for a rooftop tent or larger cargo. Remember that two boxes add real empty weight to the rack, so check that against your rack's dynamic load rating before loading them up.

Is it secure enough to leave gear in?
That is much of the point, and it matters more on a Gladiator than most trucks. With the top and doors off, your cabin is not securable at all, so a lockable aluminum box in the bed becomes your only real storage. Welded 1/8 inch aluminum with keyed locking push button latches is a genuinely different proposition from a plastic box with a plastic latch. Nothing is theft proof, but this raises the effort required considerably.
Why aluminum instead of a plastic box?
Injection molded plastic boxes flex under load, go chalky and brittle after a few years of UV exposure, and commonly crack where the hinges mount. Aluminum does none of that. It stays square, keeps the gasket sealing, and does not degrade in sunlight, salt, or mud. The tradeoff is weight and cost. This is heavier and pricier than a plastic equivalent up front, but it is the last storage box you buy for that rack.
