The Sunlight is rated 150 lbs dynamic and 300 lbs static, because it mounts to the hardtop gutters rather than the roll cage. That suits bikes, boards, cargo, and light gear. Not every Gladiator owner wants to drill through their hardtop. The Sunlight is the Sherpa PEAK Jeep Gladiator roof rack for 2020-2026 JT models that requires zero drilling and zero modification. It clamps to the hardtop gutters with eight 3/16 inch steel mounts, and it comes off leaving the top exactly as it was.
It spans 66 inches with 8 extrusion crossbars and is built in two separate sections, so you can pull the Freedom Top panels and keep a working rack on the rear of the top. Side panels are 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum. At roughly 55 lbs and only 2 inches tall, it is light and low. Secure gear by bolting into the crossbars or strapping directly to the side plates. Sunlight or QDHD? The Real Decision
Sherpa makes two Gladiator roof rack options, and they answer different questions. The Sunlight asks nothing of your hardtop. The QDHD bolts through it into the roll cage. That single difference sets everything else.

Choose the Sunlight if you want a JT roof rack that leaves the hardtop untouched, you are carrying bikes, boards, a cargo box, or light recovery gear, and weight on the roof matters to you.
Choose the JT QDHD if you plan to run a rooftop tent, carry heavy loads, or want to take the whole hardtop off while keeping the rack mounted.
Why the Load Rating Is Lower
Load rating is set by what the rack attaches to, not by the rack itself. The Sunlight's side plates are the same 1/4 inch aluminum as every PEAK rack. What limits it is the mounting point: the gutters on a Jeep hardtop are a composite panel, not a structural steel roll cage.
That is the trade Sherpa made deliberately. Clamping to the gutters is what makes the Sunlight drill-free and removable without a trace. Bolting to the cage is what gives the QDHD its 1,200 lb static figure. Neither approach gets you both, and it is worth choosing with that in mind rather than discovering it after the rack is on.
Two Sections for Freedom Top Driving
The Sunlight is built as two separate sections. Pull the front section with the Freedom Top panels and the rear section stays in place on the back of the hardtop, still carrying gear. Open-air front seats, loaded rack behind them.
What it does not do is let you remove the entire hardtop with the rack still mounted, since the rack rides on the top itself. If full topless driving with a loaded rack matters to you, that is exactly what the QDHD's roll cage mount is for.
Cab Rack, Bed Free
Most Jeep Gladiator accessories work around one advantage the truck has over a Wrangler: you still have a bed. The Sunlight covers the cab, which leaves the bed entirely open for a bed rack, a tonneau, a camper, or just cargo.
That is a useful split on a truck where the 150 lb dynamic limit means a tent is off the table up top. Put the tent over the bed on a bed rack, and use the cab rack for an awning, boards, lighting, and the gear you want out of the bed. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put a rooftop tent on the Sunlight?
For most tents, no. The Sunlight is rated 150 lbs dynamic, and the majority of rooftop tents weigh more than that on their own before any other gear. It is built for bikes, boards, cargo boxes, and light recovery gear. On a Gladiator you have a better option anyway: put the tent on a bed rack over the bed, and use the Sunlight for everything else. For a tent on the cab, the Sherpa JT QDHD is the right rack.
Does it really need no drilling?
Correct. Eight 3/16 inch steel gutter mounts clamp to the hardtop gutters. Nothing is drilled, cut, or modified, and when the rack comes off the top is exactly as it was. That is the main reason to choose the Sunlight over the QDHD, which bolts through the hardtop into the roll cage.
Can I still take the Freedom panels off?
Yes. The rack is built as two separate sections, so you remove the front section with the Freedom Top panels and the rear section stays mounted and loaded. What you cannot do is remove the entire hardtop with the rack still on it, since the rack rides on the top. If that matters to you, the QDHD mounts to the roll cage and stays put with the top off.

Will it fit a soft top Gladiator?
