Roll Cage Mounted, Not Gutter Mounted
This is where the load rating comes from. Most jeep roof rack systems clamp to rain gutters, factory tracks, or the hard top itself, and their ratings reflect that: typically 300 lbs dynamic and 600 to 700 static. The QDHD passes through the hard top and bolts into the roll cage, so loads go into the vehicle's structural cage rather than into sheet metal or plastic.
The result is 500 lbs dynamic and 1,200 lbs static, which is why this JL roof rack outperforms the clamp-on alternatives by roughly double. Quick Detach

The Two-Piece Modular Design
There is a second layer to this. The rack is built in two pieces, so you can remove just the front section and run with no freedom panels while the rest of the rack stays put. That means three real configurations rather than the usual on-or-off binary: full rack with the top on, full rack with the top off, or front section removed for freedom-panel-out driving with the rear rack still carrying gear.

Choose the Full Rack if you want the whole roof usable, or if you are running a rooftop tent alongside boards, boats, or recovery gear. The two-piece modular design is exclusive to this version.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to drill my hard top?
Yes. The QDHD passes through the factory hard top and bolts into the roll cage, and that requires drilling. All mounting hardware is included. It is worth being clear that this is a permanent modification to the top, and it is also exactly why the rack carries 1,200 lbs static rather than the 600 to 700 typical of racks that clamp to gutters or tracks. If you are not comfortable drilling, we can point you toward a professional installer.
Can I still take my top off?
Yes, and this is the whole point of the QDHD line. Because the rack mounts to the roll cage rather than the top, the top comes off independently. Six billet quick-detach knobs let you lift the rack away without tools when you need to, and Sherpa's own figure is that you can pull the top and have the rack and your gear back on in under 10 minutes. You are never choosing between a loaded rack and open-air driving.
Can I run freedom panels out?
Yes. The Full Rack uses a modular two-piece design specifically for this. Remove just the front section and the freedom panels come out while the rear section stays mounted and loaded. That gives you three configurations rather than two: full rack with the top on, full rack with the top off, or front section off for freedom-panel driving with gear still on the back.
Can I mount a rooftop tent?
Comfortably. 1,200 lbs of static capacity covers a rooftop tent plus two or three occupants plus gear with real margin, and 500 lbs dynamic handles the tent plus accessories while driving. Will it work with the 2024+ airbag system?
Yes. Sherpa confirms the JLU QDHD is compatible with the 2024 and newer Rollbar Airbag System. That matters because a roll cage mounted rack on a newer JLU has to work around the airbag hardware, and not every rack does. If you have a 2024 or later Wrangler, call us at 844-200-3979 and we will confirm your specific configuration before you order.
Full Rack or Half Rack?
Both mount to the roll cage and both carry 500 lbs dynamic and 1,200 lbs static. The Full Rack spans 93 inches with 11 crossbars at 100 lbs, and it is the only one with the two-piece modular design for freedom-panel driving. The Half Rack spans 59.5 inches with 7 crossbars at 72 lbs. Choose Full if you want the whole roof usable or are running a tent plus other gear. Choose Half if the 28 lb saving matters or you only need rear coverage.
