80 Square Feet. 270 Degrees. One Person, Under a Minute.
Eezi-Awn Bat 270 Awning. Four triangular panels. Three adjustable legs. 260gsm ripstop canvas. Made in South Africa.
The Eezi-Awn Bat 270 wraps 270 degrees of freestanding shelter around your vehicle from a single mount point. Four triangular panels deploy from the side and around the rear, putting over 80 square feet of weather protection across your cooking area, your camp chairs, and your gear access zone at the same time. The whole structure goes up and comes down solo in under a minute. No second person holding a pole, no wrestling with guy lines to get it standing.
Three of the four rafter arms carry swing-out, height-adjustable legs, which gives the Bat more ground contact than most 270 degree awnings and meaningfully better composure when the wind picks up. The canopy is 260 gram waterproof ripstop canvas, the same spec Eezi-Awn runs across the Bat, Manta, Dragonfly, and Swift. It travels inside a 700 gram UV-resistant heavy duty PVC cover built to tonneau-grade standards. Everything is made at Eezi-Awn's Johannesburg facility. Available in Grey or Beige, in left (driver side) or right (passenger side) orientation.
Choose Your Side Before Ordering
Orientation is fixed at purchase. Select Left (Driver Side) or Right (Passenger Side) based on which side of the vehicle the awning will mount to. This is not something you can flip later. Most North American builds run passenger side so the awning opens away from traffic when parked roadside. If you are unsure, call us at 844-200-3979 and we will talk through your rack layout and how you camp.
Four Panels, Side to Rear
A standard side awning shades one zone. The Bat 270 covers three at once. The four triangular panels sweep from the side of the vehicle around the back, so your camp kitchen at the tailgate, your chairs alongside the truck, and the door you keep opening for gear are all under cover simultaneously. When weather rolls in mid-meal, nobody has to relocate. Each panel measures 95" x 82" x 82", and the geometry means you get usable standing-height space across the full arc rather than a strip of shade that only works at midday.
Packs to 4 Inches Wide
Closed, the Bat sits at 95" long by just 4" wide and 5.25" tall. That slim packed profile matters on a roof rack where every inch of rail length is contested between a tent, a light bar, and whatever else you are hauling. At 46 lbs it is also lighter than most awnings offering this much coverage. The 700 gram UV-resistant PVC cover is heavyweight tonneau-grade material, which is what keeps the canopy from cooking in the sun over years of highway miles between trips.
Stability Is the Whole Difference
Three-Leg System: Three of the four rafter arms have swing-out, height-adjustable legs extending to 92" fully out. Most 270 degree awnings give you fewer contact points, which means more flex and more sag as the arc extends away from the vehicle. More legs means more load paths to the ground, less movement in gusts, and the ability to level the structure properly on uneven terrain instead of accepting whatever angle the ground gives you.
Updated Hinge: The Bat runs an extruded black powder-coated hinge that replaced the previous design. It is more durable and holds up to stronger winds with the legs retracted, which is the configuration most people use for a quick lunch stop or a shade break where deploying legs is not worth the time.
About "freestanding": The Bat 270 is freestanding in no-wind conditions. Eezi-Awn strongly recommends staking down at the base of the legs in an X pattern at all times. Freestanding means you can deploy it fast without staking, not that staking is optional overnight. Any large awning becomes a sail in a gust, and this one has 80 square feet of surface.

What's Included
Not included: Mounting hardware. The Bat/Manta/Swift/Lite/Dragonfly Awning Mount is sold separately, and additional hardware may be required depending on your roof rack. The Bat 270 Wall Set is also sold separately.
Mounting and Compatibility
The Bat 270 is natively compatible with the Eezi-Awn K9 Roof Rack. For other racks, you will need the Bat/Manta/Swift/Lite/Dragonfly Awning Mount, sold separately, and possibly additional hardware depending on your rail spacing and rack construction.
Before ordering, confirm two things: that your rack has at least 95" of usable rail length for the closed awning, and that your rack's load rating comfortably handles 46 lbs mounted off one side. A 270 degree awning puts its weight and its wind load asymmetrically on one side of the vehicle, which is a different loading case than a centered rooftop tent. Call us at 844-200-3979 with your rack and we will confirm what you need.
Wall Set
The Bat 270 Wall Set (sold separately) encloses the full 270 degree footprint into a standing-height private shelter with one door and two windows. This is where the Bat separates itself from most bag awnings. You are not just adding a windbreak, you are converting the awning into a genuine enclosed room for changing, sleeping, or waiting out a storm.
Pros
- 80 ft² of 270 degree coverage from a single mount point, protecting cooking, seating, and gear zones at once
- Deploys and stows solo in under 60 seconds with no second person needed
- Three swing-out height-adjustable legs give more ground contact and better wind composure than most 270 awnings
- Packs to just 4" wide, leaving rack rail space for a tent and other gear
- 46 lbs is light for this much coverage
- 260 gram waterproof ripstop canvas with a 700 gram UV-resistant PVC travel cover
- Updated extruded powder-coated hinge handles stronger winds with legs retracted
- Wall Set compatible, converting it into a fully enclosed standing-height shelter
Cons
- Orientation is locked at purchase. Choose driver or passenger side correctly the first time, because you cannot flip it later
- Mounting hardware is sold separately unless you run an Eezi-Awn K9 rack. Budget for the awning mount on top of the awning itself
- Freestanding applies to no-wind conditions only. Staking the leg bases in an X pattern is strongly recommended every time, so plan on carrying stakes and using them
- Needs 95" of usable rack rail. On shorter racks or smaller vehicles, a 180 degree or compact awning may fit your build better
Frequently Asked Questions
Driver side or passenger side?
Pick the side you actually live on at camp. Most North American overlanders choose passenger (right) side so the awning deploys away from the road when parked on a shoulder or a forest road. If your tailgate kitchen setup or your rooftop tent ladder is on the driver side, match the awning to that instead. Orientation is fixed at purchase and cannot be changed afterward, so it is worth thinking through before you order. Call us at 844-200-3979 if you want a second opinion on your layout.
Is it really freestanding?
Yes, in no-wind conditions. The three adjustable legs support the structure without guy lines, which is what lets one person deploy it in under a minute. That said, Eezi-Awn strongly recommends staking down at the base of the legs in an X pattern at all times. Freestanding means fast setup, not that staking is optional. Eighty square feet of canvas catches a lot of wind, and an unstaked awning in a gust becomes an expensive problem.
What do I need to mount it?
If you run an Eezi-Awn K9 rack, the Bat 270 is natively compatible. For any other rack, you will need the Bat/Manta/Swift/Lite/Dragonfly Awning Mount, sold separately, plus potentially additional hardware depending on your rack. You also need at least 95" of usable rail length for the closed awning and a rack rated to carry 46 lbs mounted off one side. Call us with your specific rack and we will confirm the parts list.
How does 270 compare to a 180 or a standard side awning?
A standard side awning covers one zone alongside the vehicle. A 180 extends further but still stays on one plane. A 270 wraps from the side around the rear, which means your tailgate cooking area and your seating area are under the same canopy. That is the practical difference and it is significant if you cook at the back of the vehicle. The tradeoff is packed length, weight, and price. For a full breakdown, read our 180 vs 270 awning guide.
What does the Wall Set add?
The Bat 270 Wall Set (sold separately) encloses the entire 270 degree footprint into a standing-height private shelter with one door and two windows. It turns the awning from overhead cover into an actual room. That makes it useful for changing, showering, sleeping, or riding out extended bad weather rather than just shading a lunch stop. It is the main reason a lot of buyers choose the Bat over comparable bag awnings.
