The K9 Roof Rack System from Eezi-Awn is a genuine advancement in expedition-style racks. It is thinner, lighter, stronger, quieter, more functional, more aerodynamic, more durable, and more aesthetically complimentary to your vehicle than the cage-style racks it replaces. Made from matte black powder-coated extruded aluminum with fully welded joints (not bolts), the low-weight K9 offers an effectively infinite number of gear organization configurations.
At only 1-3/8" thick, the platform itself is very low-profile with aerodynamic edging that will not slow you down or drone at highway speed. With a modular system outside your vehicle to accommodate shovels, axes, jerry cans, and more, you save valuable space inside. This kit is available in 11 size configurations across two widths (1400mm / 55" and 1500mm / 59") and lengths from 1.4M up to 2.8M, plus two leg heights (Standard 210mm and Tall 250mm). Every system comes complete with platform, rails, legs, and all hardware required for installation.
Fully Welded. Not Bolted.
This is the detail that separates the K9 from most platform racks. The joints are fully welded, not bolted together. Bolted joints work loose over corrugations and washboard, and every bolt is a potential rattle point and a potential failure point. Welded joints do not. The extruded aluminum construction keeps weight low while the welded structure keeps the platform rigid over the worst terrain. Finished in matte black powder coat that holds up to UV, salt, and years of trail abuse.
Move Your Gear Outside the Truck
The K9 runs a complete array of bolt-on accessories: jerry can holders, axe mounts, shovel mounts, Hi-Lift mounts, MaxTrax and traction board mounts, awning mounts, and under-rack table mounts. The point is not just capacity, it is getting the dirty, bulky, smelly gear out of your cabin. Fuel cans, recovery boards, and shovels belong on the roof. Your interior space belongs to you and your passengers. The M8 T-slot slats run front to back, so accessories mount anywhere along the platform and reposition when your setup changes.
Thule and Yakima Compatible
The K9 is the only overlanding platform rack on the market that is easily compatible with your existing Thule or Yakima sports bar mounts for bikes, kayaks, skis, and more. Store-accessible 6mm hardware attaches to the K9's perimeter, so your hobbies do not become obsolete alongside your old crossbars. If you already own a bike tray or kayak saddle, it comes with you.

Choose Your Size
The K9 for the Defender 110 comes in two platform widths and six lengths. Wider gives you more mounting area side to side. Longer extends coverage back over the rear of the roof. Most Defender 110 builds running a rooftop tent plus an awning and recovery gear land in the 1.8M to 2.2M range, which leaves room for a tent up front and gear behind it. Shorter 1.4M and 1.6M platforms suit a tent-only or cargo-only setup with a cleaner look.

Leg Height: Standard or Tall
K9 Legs are measured from the bottom of the leg where it sits in the gutter, vertically to the top of the leg where the platform attaches. Standard legs are 210mm. Tall legs are 250mm. The extra 40mm of the Tall option gives you more clearance between the roof skin and the platform, which matters if you plan to run gear underneath the platform (under-rack tables, for example) or if you want additional airflow over the roof. Standard legs keep the overall vehicle height lower, which matters for garage and overhead clearance. Both options are the same price.

A static capacity in the range of 1,000 lbs is possible (static means the vehicle is stationary, for example people sleeping in a rooftop tent). These figures were achieved on vehicles with modified suspensions designed to manage that weight. No. This kit is built for the Classic Defender 110 (pre-2020), which has factory rain gutters. It mounts using K9 Roof Rack Legs that sit directly in those gutters. The 2020 and newer Defender 110 has a gutterless roof and requires either a mounting rail with feet or OEM track-mount feet, depending on whether your vehicle came with the factory roof rack track. Which size should I choose?
Most Defender 110 expedition builds running a rooftop tent plus an awning and recovery gear land in the 1.8M to 2.2M length range, which leaves room for the tent up front and gear behind it. Choose 1.4M or 1.6M for a tent-only or cargo-only setup with a cleaner, shorter look. Go 2.8M (1400mm width only) if you want maximum coverage across the full roof. For width, 1500mm (59") gives you more side-to-side mounting area; 1400mm (55") keeps the platform tighter to the roofline.
Standard or Tall legs?
Standard legs are 210mm and Tall legs are 250mm, measured from the bottom of the leg in the gutter to the top where the platform attaches. Choose Tall if you plan to mount gear underneath the platform (an under-rack table, for example) or want extra airflow over the roof. Choose Standard to keep overall vehicle height lower for garage and overhead clearance. Both cost the same, so this is purely a build decision.
Can I mount a rooftop tent on the K9?
Yes. Eezi-Awn's testing showed a dynamic capacity in the range of 500 lbs on a 2.2M platform loaded with a rooftop tent, awning, fuel cans, storage case, recovery gear, and a light bar, with a static capacity in the range of 1,000 lbs. For Thule, you need the Podium Foot Pack 460 plus Fit Kit KIT3101. For Yakima, you need one set of Skyline Towers plus two Landing Pad 4 units.
