Recovery boards are bulky, filthy after use, and take up the exact cargo space you wanted for everything else. Which is why they belong on the outside of the vehicle. This is the recovery board mount that puts them on the side of your Slimline 3 rack and keeps them there.
This recovery board mount takes MAXTRAX, TRED Pro, TRED GT and other boards with similar hole spacing, in either one or two pairs. It is adjustable in height and angle so it sits right against different vehicle profiles, and it is built from 3CR12 stainless steel with the same weather-resistant black powder coating as the racks themselves. When the boards are off, the bracket strips down to a discreet 1.6 inch slat bracket rather than leaving an empty frame hanging off your rack.
Boards Off, Bracket Gone
This is the detail that separates it from most recovery board mount designs. Take the recovery boards off for a season and you usually have a bare steel frame bolted to your rack, catching wind and looking unfinished.
Here the pillar brackets and side profile brackets come off, leaving only a 40mm (1.6 inch) slat bracket behind on the rack. Low, discreet, and nothing for the eye or the wind to catch. When the boards go back on, the rest bolts straight back to it.
For anyone who runs boards seasonally rather than year-round, that is the difference between taking them off and just leaving them up there.
Adjustable Height and Angle
Vehicle profiles differ enormously. A 4Runner's roofline, a Gladiator's, and a Land Cruiser's all sit at different heights and angles relative to the rack side profile, and a fixed bracket ends up either sticking out awkwardly or fouling the bodywork.
Height Adjustment
Set how far down the boards sit against the vehicle side, so they tuck in rather than hanging proud.
Angle Adjustment
Match the rake of your vehicle's profile so the boards sit flush rather than kicked out at the bottom.
One or Two Pairs
Bolts for both configurations are included, so you can run a single pair or double up without buying more hardware.
What Boards Fit
This MAXTRAX mount is built around MAXTRAX and TRED hole spacing, and Dometic lists the confirmed configurations.
| Board | Configurations |
|---|---|
| MAXTRAX Mini | 2 x Mini, or 3 x Mini with 1 x Jaxbase |
| MAXTRAX Lite | 2 x Lite or 4 x Lite |
| MAXTRAX MKII | 2 x MKII or 4 x MKII |
| MAXTRAX Xtreme | 2 x Xtreme or 4 x Xtreme |
| TRED Pro | 2 x Pro or 4 x Pro |
| TRED GT | 2 x GT or 4 x GT |
| Other brands | Boards with similar hole spacing |
One exception worth knowing: mounting two pairs of MAXTRAX Xtreme requires the MAXTRAX Mounting Pin Set XTREME, which is sold separately. If that is your setup, factor it in before ordering. Call us at 844-200-3979 and we will make sure you have everything you need.
If you run a board brand not on that list, the question is hole spacing rather than badge. Send us a photo or the specs and we will tell you whether it lines up.
Locking Your Boards Down
Recovery boards are expensive, visible, and sit on the outside of the vehicle. Worth securing. There are two routes, and both use parts sold separately.
Rack Accessory Lock (Large)
The Front Runner Rack Accessory Lock in the large size locks your boards to the bracket and the rack. This is the straightforward option if you are running the bolts that come in the box.
MAXTRAX Mounting Pins plus a Padlock
The included bolts can be substituted with the MAXTRAX Mounting Pin Set, sold separately. With the pins fitted, a standard padlock secures your boards to the rack. This route also makes the boards faster to pull off when you actually need them, since you are releasing a pin rather than undoing a bolt.
Either way, the security hardware is an extra purchase. Call us at 844-200-3979 and we will sort out which suits your boards.
Built From the Right Material
A traction board mount lives in the worst spot on the vehicle: low on the side, in the spray, holding something muddy, and getting pressure washed along with everything else.
This bracket is 3CR12 stainless steel finished with the same weather-resistant black powder coating used on the Front Runner racks. That matters twice over. It resists corrosion where it will see the most salt and water, and it matches your rack rather than being a slightly different shade of black bolted onto it.
Installation hardware is stainless steel and supplied, with fitting instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit my recovery boards?
As a MAXTRAX mounting bracket it covers MAXTRAX (Mini, Lite, MKII and Xtreme), TRED Pro and TRED GT, in either one or two pairs, plus other boards with similar hole spacing. The deciding factor is hole spacing rather than brand. If you run something not on that list, send us a photo or the specs at 844-200-3979 and we will tell you whether it lines up.
What is left on the rack when the boards come off?
Just a 40mm (1.6 inch) slat bracket. The pillar brackets and side profile brackets both remove, so you are not left with an empty steel frame catching wind on the side of your rack. It is low enough to be genuinely discreet, and the rest bolts straight back on when the boards return.
Can I lock my boards to it?
Yes, two ways, both using parts sold separately. The Rack Accessory Lock in the large size locks the boards to the bracket and rack. Alternatively the included bolts can be swapped for the MAXTRAX Mounting Pin Set, after which a standard padlock does the job and the boards come off faster when you need them. Call us at 844-200-3979 and we will sort out which suits your setup.
Can I mount two pairs of MAXTRAX Xtreme?
Yes, but that specific configuration requires the MAXTRAX Mounting Pin Set XTREME, which is sold separately. The bolts in the box cover one or two pairs of most boards, but two pairs of Xtreme is the exception. Worth sorting before you order rather than discovering it at install.
Why mount boards on the side rather than on top?
A side-mounted MAXTRAX mount keeps the top of the tray free for a tent, an awning or cargo, which is usually where the space is tightest. It also puts the boards where you can reach them from the ground rather than climbing up to unstrap them, and that matters when you need them, which is generally when you are already stuck. Check your garage and trail clearance, since side mounting does add width.
