Showering on the road usually means hanging a bag off a rack edge, standing pressed against the side of a vehicle that is covered in a week of trail dust, and getting most of the water on the paintwork rather than on you. The water is warm and the idea is good. The execution is the problem.
The Front Runner Slimline 3 Shower Arm extends 26.8 inches (680mm) out from the rack, far enough to hang a solar shower clear of the bodywork, so you can actually stand under it. It mounts on either the left or right side of your Slimline 3, carries up to 44 lbs (20kg), and is built from black powder-coated 3CR12 stainless steel. Stainless hardware and fitting instructions included.
What 26.8 Inches Buys You
Hanging a bag directly off the rack puts the water right against the vehicle. Over two feet of reach changes that entirely.
Room to Stand
You can get fully under the water rather than pressing yourself into the side of a dusty vehicle to stay in the stream.
Water on the Ground
Runoff lands away from the vehicle instead of down the doors, which matters more after a muddy week than it sounds.
Height for Pressure
A solar shower bag runs on gravity. Hung clear of the rack at full height, you get usable flow rather than a trickle.
On an overland shower setup, that is the whole difference between a rinse you tolerate and one you look forward to at the end of a long day.
The 44 lb Rating, and Why It Matters
Front Runner publishes a maximum load rating of 44 lbs (20kg) for this arm, and it is worth doing the arithmetic before you hang anything on it.
| Water Volume | Approximate Weight |
|---|---|
| 2.5 gallons (10 litres) | About 21 lbs |
| 4 gallons (15 litres) | About 33 lbs |
| 5 gallons (20 litres) | About 42 lbs, plus the bag itself |
Water weighs roughly 8.3 lbs per US gallon. A full 5 gallon solar shower bag sits very close to the 44 lb limit once you add the weight of the bag, so that is the ceiling rather than a comfortable working load. Most people run smaller bags anyway, since lifting 42 lbs of water up onto a rack arm is its own problem.
If you are planning around a particular bag or a pressurised shower unit, call us at 844-200-3979 and we will check the numbers with you.
Left Side or Right Side
The arm mounts along either side of the Slimline 3, which is more useful than it first appears.
Think about where you will actually stand. Most people want the shower on the opposite side from the awning, so you are not soaking the shade and the camp chairs. If a rooftop tent opens to one side, the other side is usually the shower side. And if you camp somewhere with neighbours, the side facing away from the track is the one you want.
The kit comes as a top arm and a bottom arm plus the rack mounting bracket, so it assembles to the side profile with the supplied stainless hardware.
Built From the Right Material
This is an accessory whose entire job involves water, which makes material choice less of a footnote than usual.
It is 3CR12 stainless steel with a black powder coat, the same material and finish used across the Front Runner rack range. It resists corrosion in exactly the conditions it is built for, and it matches your rack rather than standing out as an add-on.
It is also a cantilevered arm carrying up to 44 lbs at full extension, which puts real leverage on the mounting point. Stainless construction on a part doing that job is not a luxury.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big a shower bag can I hang on it?
The arm is rated to 44 lbs (20kg). Water is roughly 8.3 lbs per US gallon, so a full 5 gallon bag comes to about 42 lbs before you count the bag itself. That puts it right at the ceiling rather than a comfortable working load. A 2.5 or 4 gallon bag leaves proper margin, and is easier to lift up there anyway. Call us at 844-200-3979 if you are planning around a specific bag.
Is a shower bag included?
No. This is the arm only: the rack mounting bracket, a top arm and a bottom arm, plus stainless hardware and fitting instructions. You supply the shower bag or unit. Most people pair it with a solar shower bag, since the height the arm gives you is exactly what a gravity-fed bag needs to produce usable flow.
Which side should I mount it on?
Either works, so think about your camp layout. Most people want the shower on the opposite side from the awning, so runoff does not land on the shade and the chairs. If a rooftop tent opens to one side, the other side is usually the shower side. And if you camp near a track, the side facing away from it is the one you want.
Can I use it for anything other than a shower?
It is designed as an overland shower arm, but it is a 26.8 inch arm rated to 44 lbs, so plenty of people use it to hang a lantern, a drying line, or wet gear away from the vehicle. Keep within the load rating and remember it is cantilevered, so weight at full extension puts more leverage on the mount than weight close in.
Does it fit a Slimline II rack?
This arm is built for the Slimline 3 side profile and Dometic specifies it for that rack. The Slimline 3 uses a redesigned side profile, so do not assume it carries over to an older Slimline II. Call us at 844-200-3979 with your rack and we will confirm before you order rather than after.
