✓ Drill-Free. Nothing Permanent Happens to a 40-Year-Old Truck.
The Mineral clamps to the 60 Series rain gutters using eight 3/16 inch steel gutter mounts. No drilling, no cutting, and zero modification to the vehicle. On a classic Land Cruiser that matters more than on anything else we sell. You are not putting holes in a truck that has survived four decades, and if you ever sell it the rack comes off and the roof is exactly as it was.
Finding a modern, properly engineered Land Cruiser roof rack for a 60 Series usually means a compromise: something built for a different vehicle and adapted, or period-correct steel that weighs as much as the gear you plan to carry. The Mineral is neither. It is a current-generation Sherpa PEAK rack designed specifically for the 1980-1990 60 Series, using the one mounting feature these trucks have that modern SUVs do not.
As a Toyota Land Cruiser roof rack it spans 92.5 inches with 10 extrusion crossbars, carrying 300 lbs dynamic and 700 lbs static. Side panels are 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum. The gutter mounts are 3/16 inch steel, because that is the interface taking the load and steel is the right material for it. Secure gear by bolting into any of the ten crossbars or by strapping directly to the side plates. Black textured powder coat, black anodized crossbars, black oxide stainless hardware. Choose a Full Height wind fairing or a Half Height fairing sized for a single-row light bar. Manufactured in Colorado. Lifetime Warranty.
Eight Steel Gutter Mounts
This is what makes the Mineral different from every other rack in the PEAK lineup, and it is the reason a 45-year-old truck can carry a modern rack without modification.
Rain gutters disappeared from vehicles decades ago, which is why almost nobody builds a proper gutter mount roof rack anymore. The 60 Series has them, and they are structural. Sherpa's mounts are 3/16 inch steel rather than aluminum, because the gutter interface is where all the load concentrates and steel handles that clamping force better over years of use.
Eight of them spread the rack's load along the full length of both gutters. That is more mounting points than most modern racks use, and it is why a rain gutter roof rack done properly can match the 300 lb dynamic and 700 lb static ratings of racks bolting into factory hardpoints.
Installation is genuinely easier than a modern rack too. There are no factory holes to locate, no plastic trim to remove, no rubber plugs to fish out. The mounts clamp to the gutters and torque down.
The PEAK Series
Industry leading premium roof rack systems. The PEAK series is the go-to for a premium aluminum roof rack. It is the line that Sherpa built its name on, and for years it has carried the gear of the most extreme adventurers. Sherpa believes in the constant evolution of their products, building the toughest systems on the market. From industry-leading alloys to uncompromising mounts, you will always Adventure with Confidence.
Crafted
Manufactured in Colorado with precision laser-cut 1/4" aluminum sideplates formed with CNC accuracy by Sherpa's team of professionals. They have created a very stout mounting structure, secured with stainless steel hardware, that will keep your gear where you need it. The 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum is thicker than most competing racks, which is where the strength comes from without the weight penalty of a period steel rack.
Adaptable
Sherpa knows the importance of mounting all of your goodies on your rig. With the PEAK Series, you have the ability to mount just about anything, anywhere. With slots and holes all over the rack, plus Sherpa's line of accessories, you will never find yourself wishing you could mount something. Ten crossbars slide to whatever spacing you need, whether that is a rooftop tent, a spare, jerry cans, or a full expedition load.
Durable
Strength is built into Sherpa's brand and the PEAK System is what they built their name on. Using the best in materials and hardware, you can beat on this system every weekend and trust it to show up to work on Monday. The 300 lb dynamic and 700 lb static ratings handle a full rooftop tent setup with occupants and gear. All backed by Sherpa's Lifetime Warranty, which on a truck this old means the rack will likely outlast the next restoration.
Which Fairing Is Right for You?
Sherpa's full height fairing is built for people who do not want to put a light bar on their rack. The half height fairing is made so you can fit a single row light bar while keeping everything flush. Both cost the same, so this is purely a build decision.
Full Height Fairing
For people who do not want a light bar on their rack. The taller smooth face deflects the most air for the quietest ride and the cleanest uninterrupted look.
Half Height Fairing
Shorter so a single-row light bar fits behind it and sits flush with the fairing line. Pick this if a light bar is in the build now or later.

Pros
- A Land Cruiser roof rack built specifically for the 60 Series rather than adapted from another platform
- Eight 3/16" steel gutter mounts, more attachment points than most modern racks use
- Completely drill-free, so nothing permanent happens to a classic truck
- 300 lbs dynamic / 700 lbs static handles a rooftop tent with occupants and gear
- 1/4" aircraft-grade aluminum sideplates without the weight of a period steel rack
- Ten crossbars across 92.5 inches, sliding to whatever spacing your gear needs
- Installation is easier than a modern rack. No factory holes to find, no trim to remove
- Choice of Full or Half Height fairing at the same price
- Made in Colorado with a Lifetime Warranty
Cons
- Requires intact factory rain gutters. On a 40-year-old truck, inspect them for rust or damage before ordering
- Fits the 1980-1990 60 Series only. 40, 55, 62, 80, and later Land Cruisers need different racks
- At ~65 lbs it is on the heavier side for an aluminum rack, a function of the 92.5 inch length and eight steel mounts
- Fairing choice is made at purchase, so switching later means buying the other fairing separately
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a gutter mount roof rack attach?
Eight 3/16 inch steel mounts clamp directly to the 60 Series factory rain gutters, which are structural on these trucks. No drilling, no cutting, no modification. Sherpa uses steel rather than aluminum for the mounts specifically because the gutter interface is where clamping load concentrates. Eight of them spread the rack's weight along the full length of both gutters, which is more attachment points than most modern racks use and is why the ratings match racks that bolt into factory hardpoints.
Will it fit my FJ60 or FJ62?
Yes. Whether you are searching for an FJ60 roof rack or an FJ62 roof rack, this is the same vehicle: the Mineral is built for the 1980-1990 60 Series Land Cruiser, which covers both. It will not fit 40 Series, 55 Series, 80 Series, or later Land Cruisers, since those have different roof geometry and in most cases no rain gutters at all. Call us at 844-200-3979 with your year and we will confirm before you order.
My truck is 40 years old. Are the gutters strong enough?
On a sound 60 Series, yes. The gutters are structural and the load is spread across eight mounts rather than concentrated at a few points. What is worth doing first is inspecting them. Rust at the gutter line is common on these trucks, and a rack rated for 300 lbs dynamic assumes the mounting surface is solid. If your gutters have rot, repair them before fitting a rack. That is true of any gutter-mounted system, not just this one.
Can I mount a rooftop tent on it?
Yes. 300 lbs dynamic covers the tent plus accessories while driving, and 700 lbs static covers the tent plus occupants once parked and sleeping. The 92.5 by 53.5 inch platform with ten crossbars takes any full-size hardshell or softshell tent. Given the 60 Series has a relatively short roof, the 92.5 inch length uses effectively all of it. Browse our rooftop tent collection here.
Is installation harder on an older vehicle?
It is actually easier. Modern racks require locating factory mounting points under trim, removing plastic covers, and fishing out rubber plugs. A gutter mount clamps to a feature you can see and reach. There are no hidden fasteners and nothing to disassemble first. Download the install PDF above, and call us at 844-200-3979 if you want to talk through anything before you start.
Which fairing should I choose?
Choose Full Height if you are not running a light bar. It has a taller smooth face that deflects the most air for the quietest ride. Choose Half Height if you want a single-row light bar to sit flush with the fairing line rather than proud of it. Both cost the same, so this is purely a build decision. If a light bar is anywhere in your future plans, Half Height saves you buying a second fairing later.
