This One Needs Wiring
The light requires an electrical connection, and Front Runner recommends the Roof Rack Power Point (sold separately) as the supply. If you want the handle without the wiring job, the plain Slimline 3 Grab Handle is the same bracket without the light.
Most of the awkward moments at camp happen after dark. Reaching up for a bag on the rack, finding the right stuff sack, pulling the awning out, all of it by headtorch while holding on to something with your other hand. This grab handle solves both halves of that at once.
This roof rack light and grab handle in one is the same stainless bracket as the standard version with a 4.5W LED rock light built in. You get a solid hold for reaching gear and light exactly where you are reaching, rather than wherever your headtorch happens to point. It mounts along either side of your Slimline 3, weighs 1.63 lbs, and is built from black powder-coated 3CR12 stainless steel.
Lit or Plain?
Front Runner makes this handle two ways. The bracket is identical. The only question is whether you want a light in it and whether you are willing to wire one.
| Grab Handle / Light (this one) | Standard Grab Handle | |
|---|---|---|
| LED Rock Light | 4.5W, included | None |
| Wiring Required | Yes | None |
| Power Point Needed | Recommended, sold separately | No |
| Net Weight | 1.63 lbs | 1.46 lbs |
| SKU | RRAC1016 | RRAC1008 |
Choose this one if you are already running power to the rack, or you are happy to. Choose the standard handle if you want a bolt-on part with nothing electrical involved.
Light Where You Are Actually Reaching
A roof rack light mounted into a handle is a different proposition from a light bar or an area light.
Hands Stay Free
No holding a torch in your teeth while you unclip a bag with one hand and hold the rack with the other.
Lights the Right Spot
The beam is where your hands are, on the side of the rack, rather than flooding the whole camp from above.
Does Not Blind Everyone
A low 4.5W rock light at the side of the vehicle is enough to work by without wrecking everyone's night vision.
It doubles as useful camp lighting too. Enough to see your footing beside the vehicle, find a door handle, or locate the right drawer without lighting up the whole site.
Getting Power to It
Some electrical connection is required, and Front Runner recommends the Roof Rack Power Point as the supply. That is a separate purchase.
The Slimline 3 helps here. The rack has concealed wiring channels in the side profiles, with corner pass-throughs and breakout tabs, designed exactly for running accessory cable out of sight. Your light wiring goes through the rack rather than being cable-tied along the outside of it.
Connection Order Matters
One instruction from Front Runner worth following precisely:
- Connecting: install the power cord into the light first, then plug it into the power source.
- Disconnecting: unplug at the power source first, then at the light.
In other words, the light end is always connected first and disconnected last. Easy to get backwards in the dark, which is exactly when you will be doing it.
Built From the Right Material
This is a part you grab with wet hands after it has sat out in the weather for a year, and it now has an electrical component in it too.
It is 3CR12 stainless steel with a black powder coat, the same material and finish used across the Front Runner rack range. It resists corrosion where it will see salt and water, and it matches your rack rather than looking like an add-on bolted to the side.
Stainless steel installation hardware and a fitment guide are included.
What It Is, and What It Is Not
Same note as the standard handle. This is an assist, not a step and not a ladder. It gives you a secure hold while you steady yourself and reach, which is what most people need most of the time.
Dometic does not publish a load rating for it, so do not hang your full body weight from it or climb on it. If you regularly need to get fully onto the roof, use a proper ladder and let the handle do its job.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I power the light?
Some electrical connection is required, and Front Runner recommends the Roof Rack Power Point as the supply, sold separately. The Slimline 3's concealed side-profile channels and corner pass-throughs are designed for running accessory cable out of sight, so the wiring can go through the rack rather than along it. Call us at 844-200-3979 and we will sort the power point at the same time.
Is there a right order for plugging it in?
Yes, and it is worth getting right. Connecting: fit the power cord into the light first, then plug it into the power source. Disconnecting: unplug at the power source first, then at the light. The light end is always connected first and disconnected last. Front Runner specifies this, so follow it rather than improvising in the dark.
Should I get this or the plain grab handle?
The bracket is identical. This version adds a 4.5W LED rock light and the wiring that comes with it. If you already run power to your rack, or you are happy to, this is the better buy. If you want a bolt-on part with nothing electrical involved, the standard grab handle is the same handle without the light.
Can I stand on it?
No. It is designed to assist in accessing gear on top of the rack, giving you a secure hold while you steady yourself and reach. Dometic does not publish a load rating, so do not treat it as a step or hang your full weight from it. If you regularly need to get fully onto the roof, use a proper ladder.
How bright is 4.5W?
It is a rock light, so it is task lighting rather than a work light or a light bar. Enough to see what you are doing on the side of the rack, find your footing beside the vehicle, or locate the right bag, without flooding the campsite or ruining everyone's night vision. If you want area lighting as well, that is a separate light rather than this one.
