Standard Awnings Only
This mount is not suitable for 180 or 270 degree awnings. If you run one of those, you need the Slimline 3 Quick Release 270 Awning Mount instead. Weight limit here is 44.1 lbs.
An awning is the easiest thing to bolt to a roof rack and the most annoying thing to take off it. Bolts overhead, in a tight gap against the rack side profile, with a wrench you can barely turn. So most people leave it up there all winter. This is the quick release awning mount that ends that.
This roof rack awning mount bolts to the side of your Slimline 3 rack and stays there. Two self-aligning stainless steel bobbins secure to your awning's mounting channel using the supplied fasteners, with no awning modification required. After that it is two latches: release them and lift the awning away. It works with Front Runner awnings and other popular brands including Eezi-Awn and Oz Tent, and wall mount brackets are supplied so the removed awning has somewhere to live.
Which Mount Do You Need?
Front Runner makes two sets of quick release awning mounting brackets for the Slimline 3. Picking the wrong one is the most common mistake here, so check your awning before ordering.
| Standard Mount (this one) | 270 Mount | |
|---|---|---|
| Awning Type | Standard pull-out awnings | 180 and 270 degree awnings |
| Weight Limit | 44.1 lbs (20kg) | 66 lbs (30kg) |
| Bobbins | 2 | 4 |
| Bracket Weight | 4.85 lbs | 8.60 lbs |
| Wall Storage Brackets | Included | Not included |
| SKU | RRAC1003 | RRAC1004 |
If your awning unrolls straight out from one side of the vehicle, this is the one. If it wraps around the corner to cover the side and the back, you want the 270 mount. Not sure? Call us at 844-200-3979 and we will sort it out in a minute.
How It Works
A one-time install, then seconds every time after.
Brackets to rack. The two rack mounts bolt to the side of your Slimline 3. This is the part you do once, with the supplied stainless hardware and the fitting instructions.
Bobbins to awning. The two self-aligning stainless steel bobbins secure to your awning's mounting channel using the supplied fasteners and awning mount plates. No drilling, cutting or modification.
Lift on, latch down. The bobbins drop into the rack mounts and self-align as they seat. Close the two latches and the awning is secured.
Release and lift away. Two latches, then lift. That is the whole removal process, and it takes seconds rather than an afternoon.
The brackets are small and unobtrusive, and they stay on the rack when the awning is off. Nothing to store, nothing to lose come spring.
Somewhere to Put It
Here is the detail that separates this from the 270 version: wall mount brackets are supplied for storing the removed awning.
That solves the problem nobody thinks about until the awning is off the rack and sitting on the garage floor in the way. An awning left leaning against a wall gets knocked over, walked past, and eventually damaged. Mounted properly on the wall, it is out of the way and stays straight.
It also removes the last excuse for leaving the awning on the roof. Taking it off takes seconds, and now there is a designated spot for it.
Why Bother Taking It Off
Most people treat an awning as permanent because removing it is a job. That has real costs across a year.
Off-Season Weight
Forty-odd pounds riding on the roof through winter, costing fuel every mile, for an awning you are not using.
Weekday Driving
Drag and wind noise on the commute for gear you only need at weekends.
Rack Access
An awning in place occupies one whole side of the tray. Lifting it off opens the rack for a bigger load.
Built to Stay Put
A roof rack awning mount is only useful if it is secure as well as quick. The load-bearing parts here are stainless steel: both bobbins and the installation hardware.
The bobbins are self-aligning, which matters when you are lifting an awning overhead on your own. You do not need perfect alignment. Get it close and the bobbins seat themselves as the awning comes down.
The system is also lockable, so tool-free release does not mean anyone walking past can lift your awning off in a car park.
Weight Limit and Wind
The limit is 44.1 lbs (20kg). That covers most standard pull-out awnings, but heavier canvas models can push against it. Check your awning's weight before ordering and call us at 844-200-3979 if it is close.
Guy your awning down whenever it is deployed. An awning is a sail, and a gust that catches it puts serious load on whatever is holding it. Guy ropes are not optional with this mount or any other, even for an hour of shade.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it work with my 270 degree awning?
No. This mount is not suitable for 180 or 270 degree awnings. Those are heavier and load the mount differently, so they need the Slimline 3 Quick Release 270 Awning Mount, which uses four bobbins and carries 66 lbs. If your awning unrolls straight out from one side, this mount is the right one.
Does it fit awnings from other brands?
Yes. It works with all Front Runner awnings and with other popular brands including Eezi-Awn and Oz Tent. The bobbins secure to the awning's mounting channel with the supplied fasteners, and no awning modification is required. Weight limit is 44.1 lbs. Call us at 844-200-3979 with the awning you are running and we will confirm.
Where do I keep the awning once it is off?
Wall mount brackets are supplied with this kit, so the removed awning has a proper home rather than leaning against a garage wall waiting to get knocked over. Mounted on the wall it stays straight and out of the way, which matters for an item you are now taking off regularly rather than once a year.
Do the brackets have to come off with the awning?
No. The rack mounts stay bolted to the Slimline 3 whether the awning is on or off, and they are small and unobtrusive enough that you will not notice them. Nothing to store, nothing to lose, and the next refit is as quick as the last removal.
Does it work on a Slimline II rack?
This mount is built for the Slimline 3 and Dometic specifies it for that rack. The Slimline 3 uses a redesigned side profile, so do not assume it carries over to an older Slimline II. Call us at 844-200-3979 with your rack and we will confirm before you order rather than after.
