Three Things to Check Before Ordering
- Six sizes. Which one you need is set by your camper brand and your bed length together. Check the table below.
- AluCab owners: the 21" and 36" sizes are not compatible with the AluCab Roof Table Slide.
- Access Cab trucks need drilling and extra hardware. Call us before ordering.

A bed camper on a 2nd or 3rd Gen Tacoma solves your sleeping problem and creates a storage one. Everything that used to live in the bed now lives inside the camper with you, and the gap between the cab and the camper's front face sits empty, doing nothing except catching air at highway speed.
The Sherpa Animas fills it. This Tacoma camper rack mounts in front of your camper on a 2005-2023 Tacoma, in six sizes from 16 to 42 inches to suit Vagabond, AluCab, Super Pacific, GFC and AT Habitat campers. It uses two 1/4 inch mounting feet tying into the front and middle factory roof mounts, comes with 3 to 5 crossbars depending on size, and offers a choice of half or full fairing. Black textured powder coat, black anodized crossbars, black oxide stainless hardware. Manufactured in Colorado. Lifetime Warranty.
Which Size Do You Need?
This is the part to get right, and it is not obvious. Sherpa sizes the Animas by the camper you run and the bed it sits on, so the same truck can need any of several sizes depending on what is in the back.
| Size | Camper | Bed | Crossbars |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16" | Vagabond | Double Cab Short Bed | 3 |
| 21" | AluCab | Double Cab Short Bed | 3 |
| 21" | Super Pacific | Double Cab Short Bed | 3 |
| 24" | Vagabond | Double Cab Long Bed | 4 |
| 30" | GFC, Super Pacific, AT Habitat | GFC and AT Habitat short bed, Super Pacific long bed | 4 |
| 36" | AluCab | Double Cab Long Bed | 5 |
| 42" | GFC, AT Habitat | Double Cab Long Bed | 5 |
Worth reading that table twice, because this is not like buying other Tacoma accessories where one part fits the whole generation. A Double Cab Short Bed can need the 16, 21 or 30 inch rack depending purely on which camper is on it. Ordering by truck alone will get it wrong, and the difference between a Vagabond and a GFC on the same bed is nearly a foot of rack.
AluCab Roof Table Slide
Both AluCab sizes, the 21 inch and the 36 inch, are not compatible with the AluCab Roof Table Slide. If you run the table slide, or plan to, call us at 844-200-3979 before ordering so you are not choosing between two things you wanted.
These are Sherpa's confirmed fitments and they are still testing more configurations. If your camper is not listed, measure the gap between the back of your cab and the front face of your camper, then call us at 844-200-3979 with that number and we will tell you which size suits.
Access Cab Trucks
If you have an Access Cab rather than a Double Cab, the fitment changes. Drilling is necessary and extra hardware is required, which is a different install from the bolt-up Double Cab version.
It is doable, and Sherpa supports it, but it is not the same job and it is not the same parts list. Call us at 844-200-3979 before ordering and we will make sure you get everything the install needs rather than discovering a missing bracket on the day.
Storage and a Wind Fairing
Most racks do one job. This one does two, and the second is the part people do not expect.
Reclaimed Space
Platform in the gap between cab and camper, which was previously doing nothing at all.
Wind Fairing
The fairing smooths air over the flat front face of the camper rather than letting it hit square on.
Gear Stays Outside
Solar panels, traction boards and fuel cans live out here rather than taking room inside the camper with you.
The three things that most commonly end up on it: a solar panel, which wants a flat forward-facing spot and is awkward anywhere else on a camper build; traction boards, which are filthy and belong outside; and overflow storage in a box or bag. On a truck already loaded with 3rd gen Tacoma accessories, it is usually the last unclaimed space left.
PEAK Series
Sherpa's flagship rack line, built around the strongest aluminum mounting structure on the market: a direct load path, 1/4" aluminum, and hardware chosen to survive the weather it lives in. The Animas applies that architecture to a camper application on the 2005-2023 Tacoma.
Crafted
Manufactured in Colorado, CNC machined and finished by Sherpa's own team. Two 1/4 inch mounting feet tie the rack into the front and middle factory roof mounts already on the truck, giving a direct load path rather than a clamp relying on friction. Black textured powder coat, black anodized crossbars, black oxide stainless steel hardware throughout.
Adaptable
Three to five aluminum extrusion crossbars depending on your size, with large slots running their length. Sherpa's drop-in nuts fall straight into the slots, so mounting a solar panel, traction board brackets or a cargo box does not mean taking anything apart. Set the spacing for what you are carrying and change it when the build changes.
Durable
This rack sits at the front of a camper taking the full force of highway air and whatever the trail throws at it, which is a harder life than a cab rack has. It is built to do that for the life of the truck, and it is backed by Sherpa's Lifetime Warranty.
Half Fairing or Full Fairing
The Animas comes with your choice of fairing, and on a camper rack the decision leans differently than it does on a cab rack.
| Full Fairing | Half Fairing | |
|---|---|---|
| Wind Noise | Quieter | More noticeable |
| Airflow Over Camper | Smoother | Less smoothing |
| Look | Covers the full front face | Lower, more minimal |
| Light Bar Clearance | Less room | More room |
On this rack the fairing is doing real aerodynamic work for the camper behind it, not just quieting the rack itself. If highway noise or fuel use matters, take the full fairing. If you want the lowest profile or you are mounting a light bar, go half.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which size do I need?
It depends on your camper and bed together. Short bed: 16" for Vagabond, 21" for AluCab or Super Pacific, 30" for GFC or AT Habitat. Long bed: 24" for Vagabond, 30" for Super Pacific, 36" for AluCab, 42" for GFC or AT Habitat. A Double Cab Short Bed alone can need three different sizes, so check before ordering or call us at 844-200-3979.
I have an AluCab with the Roof Table Slide. Will this fit?
No. Both AluCab sizes, the 21 inch and the 36 inch, are not compatible with the AluCab Roof Table Slide. Sherpa states this for both. If you run the slide, or you are planning to add one, call us at 844-200-3979 before ordering and we will talk through the options rather than leaving you to choose between two things you wanted.
I have an Access Cab, not a Double Cab
It can be done, but the install changes. Drilling is necessary and extra hardware is required, which is a different job and a different parts list from the Double Cab fitment. Call us at 844-200-3979 before ordering and we will make sure everything the install needs is in the box.
What is the load rating?
Sherpa lists it as varies rather than publishing a figure, since it changes across six sizes and configurations, and we are not going to invent a number. For a solar panel, traction boards or a cargo bag, the loads involved are modest. If you are planning something heavier, call us at 844-200-3979 and we will get a figure confirmed for your size before you load it.
My camper is not on the list
Sherpa lists confirmed fitments and is still testing more configurations, so an absence from the list is not the same as an incompatibility. Measure the gap between the back of your cab and the front face of your camper, then call us at 844-200-3979 with that measurement and we will tell you which of the six sizes fits best.
