Finding a modern 80 Series Land Cruiser roof rack is harder than it should be for one of the most capable platforms Toyota ever built. Most options are either period steel that weighs as much as your gear, or something designed for another vehicle and made to fit. The La Sal is neither. It is a current-generation Sherpa PEAK rack built specifically for the 1990-1997 80 Series roof rack fitment, using the rain gutters these trucks have and modern vehicles do not.
This 80 series roof rack spans 92 inches with 10 extrusion crossbars, carrying 300 lbs dynamic and 700 lbs static. Side panels are 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum. The gutter mounts are 3/16 inch steel, because that is the interface taking the clamping load. At just 2 inches tall, it is the lowest-profile rack in Sherpa's PEAK lineup, which keeps an already-tall 80 manageable in garages and under branches. Rain gutters disappeared from vehicles decades ago, which is why almost nobody builds a proper gutter-mounted rack anymore. The 80 Series has them, and they are structural.
Sherpa's mounts are 3/16 inch steel rather than aluminum, because the gutter interface is where all the load concentrates and steel handles that clamping force better over years of use. Eight of them spread the rack's load along the full length of both gutters, which is more attachment points than most modern racks use.
Installation is genuinely easier than on a modern vehicle too. There are no factory holes to locate, no plastic trim to remove, no rubber plugs to fish out. The mounts clamp to the gutters and torque down.

Yes. Whether you are searching for an FJ80 roof rack or an FZJ80 roof rack, this is the same vehicle: the La Sal is built for the 1990-1997 80 Series Land Cruiser and covers the whole run. It also fits the Lexus LX450, which is the same truck under a different badge. It will not fit 60 Series, 100 Series, or later Land Cruisers, which have different roof geometry. How do the gutter mounts attach?

My 80 is 30 years old. Are the gutters strong enough?
On a sound 80 Series, yes. The gutters are structural and the load spreads across eight mounts rather than concentrating at a few points. What is worth doing first is inspecting them. Rust at the gutter line is common on these trucks, particularly in salt states, and a rack rated for 300 lbs dynamic assumes a solid mounting surface. If your gutters have rot, repair them before fitting a rack. That is true of any gutter-mounted system.
Can I mount a rooftop tent on it?
Yes. 300 lbs dynamic covers the tent plus accessories while driving, and 700 lbs static covers the tent plus occupants once parked and sleeping. The 92 by 52.5 inch platform with ten crossbars takes any full-size hardshell or softshell tent. Is installation harder on an older vehicle?
It is actually easier. Modern racks require locating factory mounting points under trim, removing plastic covers, and fishing out rubber plugs. Which fairing should I choose?
Choose Full Height if you are not running a light bar. It has a taller smooth face that deflects the most air for the quietest ride. Choose Half Height if you want a single-row light bar to sit flush with the fairing line rather than proud of it. Both cost the same, so this is purely a build decision. If a light bar is anywhere in your future plans, Half Height saves you buying a second fairing later.
