As a truck topper rack it carries 300 lbs dynamic and 600 lbs static on 1/4 inch aircraft-grade aluminum side panels with stainless steel hardware, weighing 35 to 50 lbs depending on size. Bolt into the extrusion crossbars or strap gear directly to the side plates. Installation is drill-free with zero modification, and Sherpa's adjustable feet give you a range of height and contour adjustment so the rack sits properly on your particular topper. How to Size Your Crow's Nest
This rack has two measurements to get right, and they come from different places. Take them one at a time.

Running an RSI SmartCap?
Choose a crossbar roughly 5 inches shorter than the size listed for your truck. That clearance keeps the bars out of the way of the SmartCap's side doors. Easy to overlook, and annoying to discover after installation.

About the Load Rating
The 300 lbs dynamic and 600 lbs static figures are for the rack system itself. They are not a promise about your truck.
Any truck cap roof rack sits on a separate structure with its own limits set by its manufacturer, and those limits are almost always lower than what the rack can handle. Whatever your topper is rated for is your real ceiling. Check the manufacturer's figure before you load a rooftop tent or anything heavy up there, and if you cannot find it, call the topper maker. Sherpa is clear about this and so are we.
Adjustable Feet Do the Hard Part
Toppers are not flat. They taper, they curve, they sit at slightly different heights, and every brand does it differently. That is why most universal racks either fit poorly or need shimming.
The Crow's Nest uses adjustable feet with a range of height and contour adjustment, so the rack can be dialled to sit properly on your specific topper rather than approximately on all of them. It is the feature that makes a universal topper roof rack work in practice rather than just in theory.
Track System and Track Nuts
Installation needs 8 track nuts and a track system, and neither is included with the rack. Most toppers and caps come with factory track rails already fitted, which is what the Crow's Nest mounts to.

Topper Rack Only, No Cab Rack
The Crow's Nest covers the topper and nothing else. It does not include a cab rack and does not replace one.

How do I know which size to order?

Crossbar width comes from your truck: 48" for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th Gen Tacoma, 53" for a 2nd or 3rd Gen Tundra, 56" for Ford and Chevy, 55" for RAM, and 43" to 47" for older mid-size trucks. Can my topper actually carry 300 lbs?
Probably not, and this is the most important thing on this page. The 300 lb dynamic and 600 lb static figures are for the rack system itself. Your topper is a separate structure with its own manufacturer rating, and that rating is your real limit. It is usually lower. Check it before loading anything heavy, especially a rooftop tent, and call the topper manufacturer if you cannot find the figure.
What are track nuts and do I need them?
Yes, eight of them, plus a track system, and neither is included. The tracks are the rails on top of your topper that the rack mounts to, and the nuts slide into them to give the brackets something to bolt into. Most toppers and caps come with tracks fitted. Check yours before ordering, and call us at 844-200-3979 if you are unsure what you have.
I have an RSI SmartCap. Anything different?
Yes. Choose a crossbar roughly 5 inches shorter than the size listed for your truck, so the bars clear the SmartCap's side doors. For example, a Tacoma that would normally take 48 inch bars wants around 43 inches on a SmartCap. Worth getting right, since a bar that blocks a side door is a daily irritation.
Will it fit my topper brand?
The adjustable feet give a range of height and contour adjustment specifically so the rack can sit properly on different toppers rather than approximately on all of them. Provided your topper has a track system and matches one of the listed bed and truck sizes, it should work.
