On the 5th gen 4Runner, the Cali Raised fuel tank skid needs TRD Off-Road fuel tank straps before it will mount. The 6th gen plate does not. Cali Raised confirm that replacement fuel tank straps are not required and no additional hardware is needed. It mounts with your factory hardware at the factory locations.
Why the Fuel Tank Needs a Skid Plate
A fuel tank is one of the largest exposed surfaces under any truck, and it is the one with the worst consequences if it goes. A gouged or punctured tank means a leak, a stranded truck and an expensive repair, usually miles from anywhere useful.
A fuel tank skid plate does not hold the tank up. Its job is to put a sheet of metal between the tank and anything sharp, and to spread an impact across the face of the plate rather than letting it land on one point of the tank.
Ledge Drops
Come off a ledge and the underside can land on rock. The plate takes that contact instead of the tank.
Ruts and Washes
Dropping in and climbing out, the underside drags as the truck pivots over the edge. Anything low takes the scrape.

Powder coat on a skid plate is a wear item, and we would rather say so. The plate is there to get dragged over things, and the high spots on a hard-working plate will show bare metal eventually. That is the plate doing its job. A touch-up with black chassis paint once a season keeps the steel version free of rust.
Installation
Fitting this 2025 4Runner skid plate is 100% bolt-on, using the factory mounting points and your factory hardware. There is no drilling, no modification and nothing extra to buy.
- Support the truck properly. Use stands or ramps, not just a jack, because you will be working underneath with a plate overhead.
- Keep the factory bolts together. You are reusing them to mount the plate, so do not mix them up with anything else.
- Two pairs of hands help with steel. At 37.9 lbs, holding the plate in place while you start the bolts alone is awkward.
