Cali Raised Trail Edition Rock Sliders for 2003-2009 4Runner. No drilling. Grade 8 hardware. Ships FedEx Ground.
Two Fitment Exclusions to Check First
• X-REAS suspension: Not compatible. X-REAS came on Sport Edition and some other 4th Gen trims, and its cross-linked hydraulic lines run where these sliders mount.
• 4Runner Limited: Not compatible with the Limited trim.
Confirm your trim and suspension configuration before ordering. Not sure whether your 4Runner has X-REAS? Call us at 844-200-3979 with your VIN and we will check it for you.
These are true frame-mounted rock sliders for the 4th Gen 4Runner, not side steps wearing a tough name. The Trail Edition uses a 20 degree angled profile that tucks the slider tighter to the body and higher along the rocker, which buys you real clearance on off-camber lines and keeps the tube out of the way when you are picking through rocks. If your 4Runner is built for terrain rather than school runs, this is the shape you want.
Construction is 1.75 inch DOM tubing with a .120 inch seamless wall, mounted to a full frame plate design with front and rear clamping support and full gusseting throughout. Everything bolts on. No drilling, no cutting, no welding, and Grade 8 hardware is included. Each slider weighs roughly 45 lbs, 90 lbs for the pair, and the install runs about 1.5 to 2 hours at an easy to moderate difficulty level. Choose kick out or no kick out, and pick from raw steel, BK59 powder coat, or polyurethane bed liner spray.

Frame Mounted, Not Pinch Weld Mounted
This is the difference between a rock slider and a running board. The full frame plate design with front and rear clamping support bolts to the 4Runner's frame itself, so the load path goes into structure rather than into sheet metal. Full gusseting ties the tube back to those plates, spreading force across the mount instead of concentrating it at one bracket. That is what lets you set the vehicle's weight down on a rock without folding your rocker panel. The 20 degree angle pulls the tube in toward the body and raises the lowest point, clearing obstacles a flat slider would catch.
DOM Tubing, Not Pipe
DOM stands for drawn over mandrel. It is a seamless tube pulled to a precise wall thickness with consistent grain and no weld seam running down its length. That seam is exactly where cheaper ERW-tube sliders fold when a rock loads them sideways. At 1.75 inches with a .120 inch wall, this tube is sized to take the weight of a 4Runner on a single point and hold its shape. It is the spec that justifies the price difference over a bolt-on step.
Choose Your Finish

Raw Steel
Bare steel, no coating. Best if you plan custom paint, a specific color match, or having it coated locally. Coat it promptly after install, since bare steel will surface rust.
BK59 Powder Coat
Clean black finish with strong resistance to scratches, chipping, wear, and fading. The standard choice and the best looking of the three straight out of the box.
Bed Liner Spray
Polyurethane textured coating. Rugged, thick, and the only one of the three that adds real grip underfoot when the sliders are wet or muddy.
Kick Out or No Kick Out
Kick out flares the rear of the slider outward, pushing rocks and brush away from your rear quarter panel and widening the platform at the back. No kick out runs straight for a tighter, narrower, cleaner look. Choose kick out if you run tight rock or tree-lined trails where rear quarter damage is a genuine risk. Choose no kick out if you want minimum overall width and a subtler profile.
Trail Edition vs Step Edition
Cali Raised builds both for the 4th Gen 4Runner, and they suit genuinely different vehicles. The difference is whether step usability or tighter fitment matters more to you.
| Trail Edition | Step Edition | |
| Profile | 20 degree angled | Step-friendly design |
| Body Fitment | Tighter to body | Extends further out |
| Ground Clearance | Better | Sits lower |
| Top Plates | Not offered | Included |
| Step Usability | Assists access, not optimized for it | Better footing, easier entry and exit |
| Best For | Trail protection, clearance, cleaner profile | Daily driving, passengers, everyday access |
If you want the slider tucked in close with a trail-focused profile, Trail Edition is the fit. If your 4Runner sees mostly daily driving and you want top plates for footing and easier entry, look at the Step Edition instead. Browse all our rock sliders to compare.
Installation
A full walkthrough covering positioning the sliders, aligning them with factory mounting points, and securing them properly. The install is 100% bolt-on with no drilling or cutting, rated easy to moderate, and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Worth watching before you start.

They arrive at your door like a standard package. That is a meaningful convenience difference from larger truck sliders that require LTL freight.
Pros
- True frame-mounted construction with full frame plates, front and rear clamping, and full gusseting
- 1.75" DOM tubing with a .120" seamless wall. No weld seam to fold under side load
- 20 degree angle delivers real clearance and a tighter-to-body profile
- 100% bolt-on with Grade 8 hardware. No drilling, cutting, or welding
- 1.5 to 2 hour install rated easy to moderate, with a full video walkthrough

- Kick out and finish are permanent choices made at checkout on a welded steel part
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these compatible with X-REAS?
No. These sliders are not compatible with X-REAS suspension components. X-REAS is Toyota's cross-linked relative absorber system, which came on Sport Edition and certain other 4th Gen 4Runners, and its hydraulic lines run through the area where these sliders mount. If you are not sure whether your 4Runner has X-REAS, call us at 844-200-3979 with your VIN and we will confirm before you order.
Do these fit the 4Runner Limited?
No. These sliders are not compatible with the Toyota 4Runner Limited trim. They fit 2003-2009 4th Gen 4Runners outside of that trim, provided the vehicle is also not equipped with X-REAS suspension. Always confirm your trim and suspension configuration before ordering.
Are these real rock sliders or just side steps?
These are true frame-mounted rock sliders. They bolt to the frame using a full frame plate design with front and rear clamping support, not to the pinch weld or body panels the way cosmetic side steps do. That means you can set the vehicle's weight down on them on a rock without folding the rocker panel. The 1.75 inch DOM tubing with a .120 inch seamless wall and full gusseting is what makes that possible.
Trail Edition or Step Edition?
Trail Edition uses a 20 degree angle for a tighter-to-body profile and better clearance, with no top plates. Step Edition includes top plates and is designed for better step usability and easier entry and exit. Choose Trail if your 4Runner runs technical terrain and you want the slider tucked in close. Choose Step if the vehicle sees mostly daily driving, carries passengers who use the slider to get in, or you want a platform for roof access.
Which finish should I choose?
BK59 powder coat is the standard choice and looks best out of the box, with strong resistance to scratching, chipping, and fading. Polyurethane bed liner spray is textured, which is the only option that adds real grip if you will be stepping on the sliders in wet or muddy conditions. Raw steel ships bare and is only worth it if you are doing custom paint or having them coated locally, in which case coat them promptly since bare steel will surface rust.
