1.75" DOM Tubing. 20 Degrees. Frame Mounted.
Cali Raised LED Trail Edition bolt on rock sliders for the 2010-2024 Toyota 4Runner.
If you are shopping for 4Runner rock sliders, the first thing worth sorting out is whether you want a step or a slider. Plenty of what gets sold as sliders is really a side step with a tube welded on, bolted to sheet metal, and it will fold the first time a rock takes the weight of the truck. These are not that. The Trail Edition is frame mounted, built from 1.75" DOM tubing with a .120" wall, fully gusseted, and angled 20 degrees upward so it tucks tighter to the body and gives you back the clearance a flat slider costs you.
These are the rock sliders 4Runner owners come back for after a cheap set has already let them down. They are built for a truck that actually gets used. Technical terrain, weekend wheeling, overland rigs that come home with new scratches. If your 4Runner spends most of its life on tarmac and you mainly want something the kids can stand on, read the Step Edition comparison below first, because that is probably the one you want.
Check Your Trim Before You Order
Not compatible with X-REAS suspension. If your 4Runner still has its X-REAS components, these will not fit. Limited and TRD Sport models can run them, but only once the X-REAS system and the side moldings have been removed. That is a real job, not a five-minute job.
2010-2013 trucks must lose the Rock Trim Panel. It has to come off for the sliders to sit properly. Straightforward, but know it is coming.
Not for the Lexus GX. Shared platform, different rocker geometry. Fitment is also not guaranteed on 2025+ 4Runners.

Yes, They Fit KDSS Trucks
This is the question we field most often on 5th gen 4Runner rock sliders, and it deserves a straight answer. The Trail Edition is compatible with both KDSS and non-KDSS 4Runners. You do not need a different part number, and you do not need to work around the KDSS plumbing.
That matters because KDSS routes hydraulic lines and the sway bar actuator through exactly the area a frame-mounted slider wants to clamp to. A lot of sliders either skip KDSS trucks entirely or ask you to modify something. These do not.
DOM Tubing, Not Pipe
DOM stands for drawn over mandrel. It starts as rolled steel, gets welded, then gets drawn over a mandrel which work-hardens it and leaves a uniform, seamless-finish wall with no internal weld bead. That uniformity is what matters when a slider takes a point load: the tube deforms predictably instead of folding at a weak seam.
The Trail Edition uses 1.75" DOM with a .120" wall. The wall thickness is the number worth comparing when you shop. Plenty of sliders use thinner wall tube and quote the outside diameter only, which looks the same in a photo and behaves very differently against granite.
Full Frame Plate
The mounting plates run the full depth of the frame rather than tabbing onto one face. Load goes into the frame, not into a bracket.
Front and Rear Clamping
Clamping support at both ends spreads the load along the rail instead of concentrating it at a single mount.
Fully Gusseted
Every joint is gusseted. Gussets are what stop a slider from working loose over years of repeated impact rather than one big hit.
Trail Edition or Step Edition?
Cali Raised build two versions of their Toyota 4Runner rock sliders, and both are genuinely frame mounted. The difference is the angle, and it changes what the slider is good at. Get this choice right and you will not think about it again.
| Trail Edition (this one) | Step Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| Angle | 20 degrees upward on the 4Runner, 25 degrees on the Tacoma | 0 degrees, flat |
| Ground clearance | Better. Tucks higher along the body | Lower, sits proud of the body |
| Step usability | Poor. The angle is not a comfortable place to stand | Good. A proper flat platform |
| Top plates | None, keeps the profile lean | Optional top plate configurations |
| Weight | Lighter, roughly 100 lbs per set | Heavier with plates fitted |
| Best for | Technical terrain, harder trail use, maximum clearance | Daily driving, work trucks, family use, roof access |
The honest version: the 20-degree angle buys you clearance and costs you the step. You can stand on a Trail Edition, but it is a sloped tube and you will notice. If kids or shorter passengers climb in and out of your 4Runner every day, or you get on the roof a lot, the Step Edition will make you happier even though it hangs lower.
If the truck sees rock shelves, ruts and off-camber climbs, the Trail Edition is the right answer. Clearance where the slider meets the obstacle is worth more than a comfortable place to put your boot.
Kick Out or No Kick Out
You will see 4Runner sliders sold either way, and some people still call them rock rails. A kick out is an angled extension at the rear of the slider that flares away from the body. It does two things: it pushes rocks and trail debris away from your rear quarter panel, and it gives you a bit of extra protection on the part of the body that swings widest through a tight turn.
- Kick out is the popular choice, and the configuration most people pair with powder coat. Better body protection on technical trails, slightly wider overall.
- No kick out keeps the profile straight and tight to the body. Cleaner look, easier in narrow trails and tight parking.
Neither is stronger than the other. It is genuinely a look-and-use decision.
Choose Your Finish
| Finish | What You Get | Who Picks It |
|---|---|---|
| Raw steel | Bare metal, no coating. You finish it yourself. | Builders matching a custom colour, or anyone planning to paint or coat it in-house. Needs coating promptly or it will surface rust. |
| BK59 powder coat | Clean black finish with strong resistance to scratching, chipping, wear and fading. | Most people. Best balance of looks and durability, and the popular pairing with kick out. |
| Polyurethane bed liner spray | Rugged textured finish with added grip underfoot. | Anyone who wants grip on the tube and does not mind a less refined look. The texture holds mud more than powder coat does. |
Worth saying plainly: any finish on a rock slider is a wear item. The whole point of the part is that it gets dragged across rock. Powder coat resists it well, but the high spots on a hard-working set will eventually show steel. That is the slider doing its job, not a defect.
They Ship Like a Normal Package
This one is worth a section because rock sliders usually do not. Most 64-inch steel sliders go freight, which means a delivery appointment, a terminal, a liftgate conversation and a bill.
These ship free FedEx Ground in two boxes from Cali Raised's Fort Worth, Texas facility to the lower 48. No freight terminal, no delivery appointment, no shipping fee. Each slider is individually boxed and protected, so the order turns up at your door the way a parcel does.
Installation
100% bolt-on, no drilling and no cutting, using the Grade 8 hardware supplied. Cali Raised rate it easy to moderate and estimate 1 to 1.5 hours. A few notes from doing these:
- Two people makes it much easier. Each slider is roughly 50 lbs and nearly five and a half feet long. Holding one up while you start bolts on your own is a fight.
- 2010-2013 owners, remove the Rock Trim Panel first. Get that off before you try to offer the slider up.
- Start every bolt before you torque anything. The clamping design wants to find its own alignment along the frame rail. Snug everything, check your gaps front to rear, then torque.
- Check the gap to the body on both sides. Easy to end up with one slider a few millimetres closer than the other. Worth five minutes now.
- Re-torque after your first real trip. Standard practice on anything frame-mounted that takes impact.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do these rock sliders fit a KDSS 4Runner?
Yes. The Trail Edition is compatible with both KDSS and non-KDSS 4Runners, with no different part number and no modification needed to work around the KDSS hydraulics. It is the most common question we get on these and the answer is a clean yes.
Will they fit my Limited or TRD Sport?
Only after modification. Limited and TRD Sport 4Runners need the X-REAS system and the side moldings removed before these will fit, and they are not compatible with X-REAS components left in place. If you are not sure what your truck has, call us with your VIN and we will check before anything ships.
Can I stand on them to reach the roof?
You can, but they are not designed for it. The Trail Edition runs a 20-degree upward angle and no top plates, which is great for clearance and poor as a step. If roof access and passenger entry matter to you day to day, the flat 0-degree Step Edition with optional top plates is the better buy.
Are these true rock sliders or just side steps?
True rock sliders. Plenty of 4Runner rock rails on the market are steps with a tube welded on. These mount to the frame with full frame plates and front and rear clamping support, and they are built from 1.75" DOM tubing with a .120" wall and full gusseting. That is a part designed to take the weight of the truck on a rock, which is a different thing entirely from a step bolted to the rocker panel.
Do they really ship free, and how?
Yes, free FedEx Ground to the lower 48, shipped as two individually boxed sliders from Fort Worth, Texas. No freight terminal, no delivery appointment and no shipping fee, which is unusual for a 64-inch steel part. It arrives at your door like any other parcel.
