Underneath the Lexus badge it is a body-on-frame SUV sharing its platform with the 4th gen 4Runner and the Land Cruiser Prado, and every one came with a V8. What it never came with is anything protecting the rocker panels, and folding a rocker on a GX is expensive bodywork on a truck that is now 17 to 23 years old.

These GX470 rock sliders are Cali Raised LED's Step Edition, built specifically for the 2003-2009 GX470. They are 1.75" DOM tubing with a .120" wall, 64 inches long, about 100 lbs for the pair, and 100% bolt-on with Grade 8 hardware and no cutting or drilling. Why a GX470 Needs Rock Sliders

Like any body-on-frame SUV, the GX470 carries a long stretch of bodywork between its wheels, and that is exposed whenever you crest a rock, drop off a ledge or ride the edge of a deep rut. The rocker panels under the doors are the low point along the side of the truck, and they are what touch first.

Crest an obstacle between the wheels and the truck settles onto the rockers. Sliders take that weight instead of the body.

Any finish on a rock slider is a wear item. The tube is designed to drag over rock, so the high spots will show steel in time. That is the slider earning its keep.

Step Edition or Trail Edition?

Cali Raised's own summary: Step Edition sliders give you more everyday step function while still protecting the rockers and lower body. Trail Edition sliders typically tuck closer to the vehicle for added trail clearance.

If your GX470 is a daily driver and family hauler that heads off-road at the weekend, the Step Edition is the practical choice. If it mostly lives on technical trails and you want every inch of clearance, ask us about the tighter-fitting Trail Edition.

Installation

The sliders are 100% bolt-on with no modification, cutting or drilling. Cali Raised rate the install easy to moderate and estimate about 2 hours, with Grade 8 hardware included.

Remove any running boards first. The sliders need the space under the doors.
Clean the mounting areas. On a truck this age, wire-brush and treat any surface rust where the sliders mount before fitting.
Use two people. Each slider is about 50 lbs and 64 inches long, which is awkward to hold up alone.
Start every bolt before tightening any, then check the gap to the body on both sides.
Re-torque after the first trip. Standard for any armour that takes hits.
